Another Kind of Sandwich

Ingredients: - 2 slices of ciabatta bread or any bread you have at home - 2-3 slices of turkey (or chicken) breast, cut very thin - 2-3 slices of Gruyere, Cheddar, Swiss, Provolone, or Fontina cheese (I used Provolone) - 1 egg - 1 tablespoon of olive oil - mayonnaise - Tabasco hot sauce (I didn't add it) - a few arugula leaves (optional)

To prepare a delicious and flavorful sandwich, we start by gathering the necessary ingredients. It is essential to choose high-quality bread that holds up well on the grill. A rustic bread or ciabatta are excellent options as they have a dense texture and rich flavor. We begin by cutting the slices of bread to the desired thickness, ensuring they are uniform for even toasting.

After slicing, we brush each side with a drizzle of olive oil. The oil will not only help achieve a crispy crust but will also add a subtle flavor. We preheat the grill, making sure it is well-heated, as we want the slices of bread to take on a golden color and a crispy texture. We place the slices on the grill and let them toast, turning them carefully to avoid burning.

While the bread is grilling, we focus on the egg. We fry it on low heat to achieve a soft, creamy yolk. It is recommended to use a non-stick skillet so the egg does not stick. Once the egg is fried on both sides, we set it aside to cool slightly.

Once the bread slices have achieved the desired color, we remove them from the grill and place them on a wooden board, ready to be assembled. On the first slice, we add slices of cheese, preferably a cheese that melts well, such as mozzarella or gouda, followed by turkey breast, which adds a savory note. We then place the fried egg on top, creating a rich and satisfying layer. We add a few drops of hot sauce, which will provide a pleasant contrast and enhance the flavors.

On the other slice of bread, we spread a thin layer of mayonnaise, which will add creaminess and a delicate taste. On top, we place fresh arugula leaves, which bring a note of freshness and a slight peppery taste. We then place this slice of bread, with the oiled side down, over the first slice, thus forming a delicious sandwich.

To finish the preparation, we cut the sandwich in half, taking care to keep all the layers intact. It is important to serve it warm, when the cheese is melted and the flavors are at their peak. This sandwich is not just a meal, but a true culinary experience, perfect for quick lunches or informal dinners. Enjoy!
