Apple and Walnut Strudel

Ingredients: Dough: 250 g flour, 2 tablespoons sunflower oil, salt, 100 ml water, 1 egg. Filling: 600 g pie apples, 100 g ground walnuts, 100 g breadcrumbs, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 3 tablespoons raisins, 3 tablespoons sugar, 50 g melted butter for greasing the dough.

To prepare a delicious apple strudel, the first step is to prepare the dough. In a large bowl, combine 500 g of flour with one egg, 50 ml of sunflower oil, and one teaspoon of salt. Mix the ingredients with a spatula or your hands until the mixture becomes homogeneous. Then, gradually add warm water, a little at a time, stirring constantly until you obtain a soft and elastic dough that does not stick to your hands. Once the dough is well kneaded, you will grease it with a little oil and cover it with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let it rest for about 30 minutes to relax the gluten, which will make it easier to roll out.

Meanwhile, it's time to prepare the filling. Peel 4-5 large apples, remove the seeds, and cut them into very small cubes. In a bowl, mix the apples with 100 g of raisins and 50 g of sugar, adding a teaspoon of cinnamon to enhance the flavor. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes so that the raisins absorb the juices from the apples and the sugar dissolves.

After the dough has rested, sprinkle a clean surface with flour and take the dough, dividing it into two equal parts. Roll out each part with a rolling pin until you get a thin, almost transparent sheet. Evenly sprinkle breadcrumbs mixed with cinnamon over the sheet, then sprinkle ground nuts, about 100 g. On top, add the apple filling, raisins, and sugar, being careful to leave the edge free to seal the strudel.

Carefully roll the dough using a towel or parchment paper to help you achieve an even shape. Place the strudel in a baking tray lined with parchment paper and generously brush it with melted butter to achieve a golden and crispy crust. Bake the strudel in a preheated oven at 190°C for 30-35 minutes, or until it becomes golden and beautifully browned.

After taking it out of the oven, let the strudel cool slightly before slicing it. Serve it warm, alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or at room temperature with vanilla cream or whipped cream. For an extra touch of sweetness, sprinkle powdered sugar on top. This apple strudel recipe will delight you with its delicate aroma and fluffy texture, making it perfect for any occasion!
