Oven-Baked Pork Knuckle
Ingredients: Raw pork knuckle, 1 bunch of green onions, 1 red bell pepper, 6-7 cloves of garlic, salt and pepper to taste, 4 larger potatoes, 3 carrots, 1 parsley root (parsnip), 4 stalks of celery, rosemary (optional)
In a baking dish, I started by placing the pork knuckle, the main dish of this delicious recipe. I opted for a knuckle with a generous amount of meat and fat, which will add juiciness to the food, turning every bite into a tasty experience. Alongside the knuckle, I added green onions, which will provide a fresh and aromatic taste, and thickly sliced carrots, which will caramelize beautifully during cooking.
Next, I included the parsley root and celery, both cut into larger pieces, to add depth of flavor to the dish. The garlic was lightly crushed and added to intensify the taste, while the bell pepper, cut into strips, will bring a splash of color and a slightly spicy flavor. I generously seasoned with salt and pepper, making sure all the vegetables and meat would embrace their flavors.
After placing all the ingredients in the dish, I added the potatoes, sliced, which will become soft and delicious in the juice left by the knuckle and vegetables. I covered the dish with aluminum foil to allow the ingredients to cook evenly and retain moisture. I placed the dish in the oven at a higher temperature, around 200 degrees Celsius, to intensify the cooking and help the meat become tender.
After about an hour, I carefully removed the foil, being careful not to burn myself with the hot steam that had built up. I drizzled the knuckle and vegetables with the drained oil, which added a touch of richness and will help brown the dish. I put the dish back in the oven, allowing everything to brown for 20-30 minutes until the meat became golden and the vegetables caramelized.
In the end, I took the dish out of the oven and admired the result: a beautifully browned pork knuckle, surrounded by colorful and appetizing vegetables, all cooked to perfection.
