Orange Liqueur
Ingredients: 10 large oranges with thick skin, 1 l of vodka (I used 21% vodka), 500 ml of water, 500 g of sugar
To prepare a delicious orange liqueur, we start by peeling the oranges with a vegetable peeler. It is important to ensure that we only remove the orange skin, being careful to leave the white part, which is bitter, intact. The obtained peels are placed in a 2-liter jar, which will be spacious enough to allow the ingredients to mix and macerate properly.
Over the orange peels, we pour a liter of vodka, ensuring that they are completely covered. The jar is sealed tightly and left to macerate in a dark, cool place for a period of 1 to 2 weeks. This process will extract all the intense flavor of the orange peels, resulting in a perfect aromatic base for our liqueur.
While the peels are macerating, we take care of the syrup. We put 500 ml of water to boil and add 500 g of sugar. We stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved, and the mixture begins to boil gently. After the syrup has boiled, we let it cool completely, as it is essential for it to be at room temperature before combining it with the alcohol.
After the maceration period, we will strain the liquid from the jar, being careful to remove the orange peels. The resulting alcohol will have a vibrant color and an unmistakable aroma. We add the completely cooled syrup over this liquid, mixing well to integrate the flavors. At first, the drink may seem cloudy; do not worry, this is a normal phenomenon. Let the mixture sit overnight, and during this time, it will naturally clarify.
Once the liqueur has reached the desired clarity, we can pour it into clean bottles, which we seal tightly. It is recommended to store these bottles in a cool place, where the flavor will continue to develop. The orange liqueur can be given as an elegant gift, beautifully packaged, adding a touch of refinement to any occasion. Don’t forget to serve it well chilled, to highlight its fresh and aromatic taste. This drink is perfect for enjoying in the company of friends or to add a touch of magic to any party.
