Kale Chips

Ingredients: a bunch of kale (5-6 leaves) 2 teaspoons of quality olive oil unrefined sea salt

To prepare a delicious and healthy snack, we start by thoroughly washing the leafy greens we've chosen. It's recommended to select fresh leaves, such as kale or spinach, which provide a crunchy texture and wonderful flavor. After washing them, we carefully dry them with a paper towel, making sure to remove excess water for even baking.

The next step is to equip ourselves with kitchen scissors. We cut the leaves into larger pieces, leaving the stems aside; if you prefer, you can tear them by hand, which adds a rustic element to the process. We place the leaf pieces on a baking tray, taking care to distribute them evenly to ensure even baking. Now, we drizzle olive oil, an essential ingredient that not only helps crisp the leaves but also enhances their flavor. After drizzling, we sprinkle salt over them, adjusting the amount to personal preference.

We mix the leaves well with the oil and salt, ensuring each piece is coated. It’s important to lay them in a single layer on the tray, avoiding overlaps, to achieve that perfect crispiness. Once the oven is preheated to 180 degrees Celsius (or 350 degrees Fahrenheit), we place the tray inside. The baking time is about 15-20 minutes, but it’s essential to keep an eye on them, as each oven can have its peculiarities.

The leaves should become crispy, so don't be alarmed if the edges turn a little darker; this is part of the process. Occasionally, check their status and adjust the temperature if you feel they are baking too quickly. Once they reach the desired texture, we take them out of the oven and let them cool slightly. These snacks can be enjoyed plain, but they are also delicious alongside a cold beer. I personally love them with grilled chicken, using them as a side dish. In this case, I leave them whole, with the stems included, but the preparation process remains the same. Enjoy these crispy delights and savor every bite!
