Savory Cake with Green Onions
Ingredients: - 4 eggs - 100 g pressed ham - 8 green onion stalks - 200 g cheese - 140 g yogurt - 1/2 red pepper - 7 tablespoons flour - 1 packet baking powder - 6 tablespoons oil - salt, pepper
To prepare a delicious and hearty savory cake, we start by taking care of the onion, an essential ingredient that will add a special flavor to our dish. In a frying pan, we add 2 tablespoons of oil from the 6 needed and let it heat over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, we add the finely chopped onion and let it sauté for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes golden and soft. This will bring an intense flavor to the recipe, and its aroma will fill the entire kitchen.
Meanwhile, we prepare the other ingredients. We cut the ham into small pieces, ensuring that each piece will bring a salty and savory taste to the mixture. The cheese, another important ingredient, will be grated using a large grater, providing a fine and creamy texture. The pepper, fresh and colorful, is also cut into small pieces to add a touch of sweetness and a crunchy note.
We separate the egg whites from the yolks, being careful not to leave any yolk in the whites, as we want to beat them into a firm foam. We add a pinch of salt to the egg whites and use a mixer to achieve a fine, airy foam. Now we turn our attention to the yolks, which we mix with the remaining oil, cheese, yogurt, ham, and sautéed onion. This mixture will form the base of our recipe, and the combination of ingredients will be simply irresistible.
The flour, mixed with the baking powder, is gradually added to the yolk mixture while continuously stirring. It is essential to ensure that no lumps form so that the cake has a uniform texture. We then add salt and pepper to taste, adjusting the seasoning according to our preferences.
Once everything is well incorporated, it is time to combine the obtained mixture with the beaten egg whites. This step will add air and the necessary volume for a fluffy cake. We gently fold using a spatula to avoid losing the air from the egg whites.
We prepare a loaf pan, which we line with baking paper to ensure that the cake will come out easily after baking. We carefully pour the mixture into the pan, smoothing the surface. The oven should be preheated to 150 degrees Celsius, and the cake will bake for 50-60 minutes. It is important not to open the oven door in the first 30 minutes to allow the cake to rise evenly.
After the baking time has expired, we check with a toothpick if the cake is done - if it comes out clean, then we can confidently take it out. We let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes and then transfer it to a rack to cool completely. Once cooled, slice the cake and enjoy each piece, savoring the delicious aroma and fluffy texture. This savory cake is perfect for a snack, brunch, or even as an appetizer at a meal with friends.
