Knorr Pork Roast in a Bag
I have made oven-roasted pork many times using the Knorr bag. I find it a very practical solution when I have larger pieces of meat that I don't want to dry out. I usually portion the meat, prepare it simply without adding too many spices so as not to overpower the flavor of the meat. I have tried a few times with mushrooms and sour cream as a side dish, which works well if you like something creamy on the side.
Quick info
Total time: about 1 hour and 30 minutes
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Servings: 6-8, depending on how much meat is served per portion
Difficulty: easy
Recipe type: oven roast
Ingredients
1.5 kg pork (shoulder, leg, or whatever you have on hand; suitable pieces)
1 teaspoon butter
Spices for the Knorr bag (I used salt, thyme, sweet paprika; see the packet)
3 cloves of garlic
Preparation method
1. Wash the meat and cut it into suitable pieces, according to preference. They don't need to be very small, but should fit easily in the bag.
2. Score each piece with a knife, not too deep, so that a little butter and spices can enter.
3. Rub the meat with the butter. Not too much, just enough to lightly cover the surface.
4. Sprinkle the spices from the Knorr bag: salt, thyme, sweet paprika. If you don't want to change the flavor of the meat, put a thin layer, don't overdo it with the packet mix.
5. Peel the garlic cloves and cut them in half or slices. Place them between the pieces of meat or even in the slits.
6. Place the prepared meat in the special bag. Don't overcrowd it; it needs a little space.
7. Tie the bag with the included ring.
8. Place everything in a tray and put it in the oven at 180°C (if you know your oven, precision is not critical here). Bake for about 1 hour and a half.
9. When the time is up, take the tray out, carefully cut the bag, and check if the meat seems cooked enough. If it needs a few more minutes, leave it uncovered for a little longer.
10. Serve immediately with your favorite side dish. In my case, I often made mushrooms with sour cream.
Why I make this recipe often
I like it because it's simple, doesn't dirty trays, and the meat comes out tender. I don't have to constantly check the oven and can take care of other things in the meantime.
Tips and variations
Tips
It's useful to portion the meat before cooking so that it cooks evenly.
Don't put too much seasoning – the bag intensifies the flavor.
When opening the bag, be careful of the steam; it's very hot.
Substitutions
You can use another brand of spices for roasting, or make your own if you prefer: salt, paprika, thyme remain the base.
If you don't have butter, you can use a little oil, but butter gives a subtle flavor.
Variations
If you want a different taste, you can try other herbs or even onion rings placed in the bag.
You can also use chicken meat following the same principle, adjusting the baking time.
Serving ideas
I like it with mushrooms and sour cream, but it also goes well with mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, or a simple salad.
Plain rice or rice with vegetables is a quick side dish if you don't want to spend much time in the kitchen.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make the recipe without the Knorr bag?
Yes, but you will need to use a covered tray or foil to prevent the meat from drying out. It won't come out exactly as tender.
Do I need to turn the meat in the bag?
No, the meat cooks evenly in the special bag. It doesn't need to be turned during baking.
Can I add vegetables to the bag?
In this recipe, I didn't add any, but you can add carrot slices or a few onion slices. However, be careful, as the vegetables will absorb some of the spices from the meat and may slightly change the flavor.
Can I marinate the meat beforehand?
You can if you want more flavor, but the basic recipe does not require marinating.

Estimate for 1 serving (out of 8):
Calories: approx. 350-400 kcal
Protein: 30 g
Fat: 25 g
Carbohydrates: under 2 g
Values vary depending on the type of meat used, how much butter and spices you actually put. Due to the fat in pork, the recipe is quite filling.
Storage and reheating
The meat can be stored in the fridge in a closed container for up to 2 days. Reheating is best done in the oven or microwave, but be careful not to dry it out. It is best consumed fresh, immediately after cooking.
