Discover how to transform fresh pears into a sweet and fragrant compote, perfect for enjoying during winter. This compote not only impresses with its taste but also with the simplicity of its preparation. Whether you consume it as is or use it as an ingredient in cakes or fruit salads, this pear compote will always be an inspired choice.

Necessary ingredients:

- 2 kg pears (choose sweet and fragrant varieties like Williams or Bosc)
- 1 l water
- 400 g sugar (you can adjust the amount according to personal preferences)

Preparation steps:

1. Preparing the pears:
Start by washing the pears well under a stream of cold water to remove any impurities. Then, using a sharp knife, peel the pears. It’s important to choose pears that are ripe but firm to achieve a pleasant texture in the compote.

2. Slicing the pears:
After peeling, cut the pears into thick slices of about 1-2 cm. Make sure to remove the seeds to avoid bitterness. Uniformly sliced pieces will help with even cooking.

3. Preparing the syrup:
In a large pot, add 1 liter of water and 400 g of sugar. Place the pot over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar completely dissolves. Continue to boil the syrup until it begins to thicken slightly, about 5-7 minutes.

4. Adding the pears:
Once the syrup is ready, add the pear slices to the pot. Simmer over low heat, stirring gently, for 10-15 minutes until the pears become tender but do not break apart.

5. Sterilizing the jars:
Meanwhile, prepare the jars. Wash them well with water and detergent, then sterilize them in the oven at 100°C for 15-20 minutes. This step is essential to prevent bacterial growth.

6. Filling the jars:
Once the pears are ready, use a slotted spoon to remove the pear slices from the syrup and place them in sterilized jars. Fill the jars to about 2 cm from the top and then pour the hot syrup over, ensuring the pear slices are completely covered.

7. Sealing the jars:
Screw the jar lids tightly, ensuring they are sealed. Place the jars wrapped in a blanket to cool slowly, which will help seal the jars.

8. Storage:
After they have completely cooled, store the jars in your pantry, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

Serving Suggestions and Variations:

This pear compote can be enjoyed on its own, but it can also be a wonderful ingredient in various dishes. You can use it as a filling for cakes, tarts, or pancakes. Additionally, you can add a dash of cinnamon or a few cloves to the syrup for an even more sophisticated flavor.

Helpful Tips:

- For a thicker compote, you can add a tablespoon of cornstarch dissolved in a little water to the syrup before adding the pears.
- Experiment with fruit combinations by adding apples or peaches for a savory mix.
- Ensure the jars are perfectly clean and sterilized to extend the compote's shelf life.

This pear compote is not just a quick and simple recipe, but also an excellent way to preserve the taste of summer during winter. Enjoy it with pleasure!
