A themed cake is not just a dessert; it’s an experience that brings joy and smiles to the faces of little ones. So, get ready to learn together how to make a delicious Minion cake with three fluffy layers, a fine cream, and decoration that will impress everyone!
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 40-50 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Servings: 12 servings
Ingredients:
*For the layers:*
- 250 g butter (at room temperature, to incorporate easily)
- 6 eggs (fresh, preferably from free-range chickens)
- 8 tablespoons sugar (you can also use brown sugar for a more caramelized taste)
- 300 g flour (you can opt for whole wheat flour for extra fiber)
- 1 pinch of baking soda
- 1 cup milk (150 - 200 ml, you can use plant-based milk for a vegan version)
- 1 packet baking powder
- 4 tablespoons dark cocoa (for an intense flavor)
*For the cream:*
- 400 ml cream (ideally with a high-fat content for a creamy texture)
- 400 g mint chocolate (or any other favorite chocolate, you can experiment with white chocolate for a different version)
- 400 g mascarpone (for a smooth and rich cream)
- Cherry compote juice (for soaking, can be replaced with sugar syrup or berry syrup)
- Fondant (for decoration, you can make your own at home or buy it)
Preparation:
1. Preparing the layers:
In a large bowl, mix the butter with a pinch of salt and sugar. Make sure the butter is soft and creamy to achieve a fluffy texture. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each. This step is crucial for incorporating air, which will make the layers fluffier.
2. Incorporating dry ingredients:
Add half of the sifted flour along with the baking powder and cocoa. Mix well. Then add the baking soda and milk, continuing to mix. Finally, add the remaining flour and homogenize the composition. It’s important not to overmix to avoid dense layers.
3. Baking the layers:
Divide the composition into three 20 cm diameter baking pans, greased with butter and dusted with flour. This will help the layers release easily after baking. Bake the layers in a preheated oven at 180°C for 40-50 minutes. Check if they are baked by doing the toothpick test; if it comes out clean, the layers are ready. Let them cool on a rack.
4. Preparing the cream:
In a double boiler, add the cream and broken chocolate pieces. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes homogeneous. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Then, incorporate the mascarpone cheese, mixing gently to maintain the airy texture. If you want a more intense flavor, add a tablespoon of cocoa to the cream.
5. Assembling the cake:
Once the layers are completely cooled, cut each layer in half. Soak each layer with cherry compote juice to keep it moist. Place a layer of cream over each layer, alternating until the last layer. Finally, cover the cake with the remaining cream and let it chill overnight. It’s essential for the cream to set well to seal the cake.
6. Decorating:
The next day, cover the cake with fondant. Use food coloring to create specific Minion details. Be creative and add eyes, glasses, or other elements that remind of the beloved characters. You can also decorate with candies or chocolate for extra fun!
Serving suggestions:
This Minion cake will delight both kids and parents alike. It can be served alongside fresh lemonade or fruit tea for a pleasant contrast. It’s also perfect for parties or birthdays.
Useful tips:
- Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting preparation. This will help achieve a better texture.
- You can personalize the cake by adding various flavors to the cream, such as vanilla or almond extract.
- If you don’t have fondant, you can use whipped cream to decorate the cake, but make sure to consume it quickly, as whipped cream can liquefy.
