Crumble with Apples

 Ingredients: Dough: - 400 g flour - 150 g sugar - 100 g butter - 2 eggs - 8 g baking powder - 1 vanilla - salt Filling: - 4 medium apples - 50 g brown sugar - 1 teaspoon cinnamon - 2 level tablespoons cornstarch or potato starch

To prepare a delicious apple pie, the first step is to clean the apples. Choose fresh and juicy apples, such as Granny Smith or Golden, which add a pleasant flavor and wonderful texture. Cut the apples into small cubes so they cook evenly. In a saucepan, mix the chopped apples with sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. The sugar will help caramelize the apples, while the cinnamon will add a warm and aromatic note. The cornstarch, on the other hand, will help thicken the juice released by the apples. Place the saucepan over medium heat and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the apples become soft, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the filling cool.

Meanwhile, it's time to work on the dough. In a large bowl, combine the flour with sugar and salt, mixing well to evenly distribute the dry ingredients. Add the diced butter and, using your fingers or a mixer, knead until the mixture becomes sandy. Then, add the eggs, baking powder, and vanilla sugar. Continue mixing until you obtain a homogeneous dough. It is important not to over-knead, as this could develop gluten, which might make the dough tough.

After you have prepared the dough, prepare the baking tray. Place a sheet of parchment paper in a 26 cm diameter tray. Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll out the first half of the dough in the prepared tray, gently pressing with your hand to form an even base. Add the apple filling, being careful to leave one centimeter free at the edges to allow the dough to rise during baking. Cover the filling with the other half of the dough, gently pressing the edges to seal the pie.

The pie bakes in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 40 minutes, or until it becomes golden and nicely browned. It is essential to let it cool completely before cutting, to allow the filling to set. Once cooled, you can serve it plain or with a scoop of cream or vanilla ice cream alongside. This apple pie is a true delight, perfect for any occasion, and its flavors will fill your home with joy. Enjoy each slice and cherish the moments spent with loved ones!
