To prepare a delicious and savory snack, we start by slicing the bread into pieces about 2 cm thick. It is ideal to use rustic bread, which will add a crunchy texture and authentic flavor. We place the slices of bread on a baking tray, making sure to leave a little space between them, and spread a slice of butter on each piece, which will melt and enhance the aroma of the bread during baking. We preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and put the tray in for 5-7 minutes, until the surface of the bread becomes slightly crispy.

Meanwhile, we take care of the delicious filling. We take a small bowl and add the cheese, preferably sheep cheese, which will bring an intense and salty flavor. We chop the onion finely; if we have green onions, it’s even better, as its fresh aroma will add extra flavor to the mixture. We also add crushed garlic, which will intensify the taste of the dish. We integrate the sour cream, which will add a pleasant creaminess, and season with salt and fresh or dried basil, depending on preferences. We mix everything very well, ensuring that the cheese and the other ingredients combine perfectly.

After the slices of bread have spent enough time in the oven, we take them out and generously cover them with the cheese mixture. We place the tray back in the oven and let the dish bake until a tempting golden crust forms on top, usually between 10 and 15 minutes. This process will intensify the flavors and create a wonderful contrast between the creamy interior and the crunchy exterior.

When they are ready, we take the tray out of the oven and add slices of fresh tomatoes on top, which will bring a note of freshness. We leave everything in the oven for another 2-3 minutes, during which the tomatoes will warm up but not become soft. Finally, we serve this delicacy with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, which will perfectly complement the flavors and add a touch of elegance to the dish. This snack is ideal both as an appetizer at a gathering with friends and as a small culinary pleasure on quiet evenings at home.

 Ingredients: Sheep cheese, 2-3 tablespoons of thick sour cream, butter, half an onion, 2 cloves of garlic, salt, basil, tomatoes (I didn't have any and used canned), olive oil, bread.
