Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 25-30 minutes
Total time: 1 hour
Number of servings: 12 horns

Ingredients:
- 500 g flour
- 250 ml milk (ideally at room temperature)
- 1 packet of dry yeast (about 7 g)
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 25 g margarine or butter (melted)
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- 4 apples (preferably sweet and sour varieties like Golden or Granny Smith)
- 4 tablespoons sugar (for filling)
- A pinch of cinnamon (for flavor)

Step by step:

1. Preparing the dough: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in 2-3 tablespoons of warm milk. It’s important that the milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast. Once dissolved, add the remaining (cold) milk and 4 tablespoons of sugar. Mix well.

2. Forming the dough: In a large bowl, sift the flour and add the melted margarine/butter. Pour the yeast and milk mixture over the flour. Knead the dough until it becomes soft and non-sticky. If the dough is too sticky, you can add another tablespoon of flour. It’s important to knead well to activate the gluten, which will make the horns fluffy.

3. Rising: Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30-40 minutes, or until it doubles in size.

4. Preparing the filling: While the dough is rising, peel the apples and grate them. In a pan, add the grated apples, 4 tablespoons of sugar, and a pinch of cinnamon. Sauté the mixture over medium heat for 10 minutes, until the apples are soft and the sugar melts. Let the filling cool.

5. Forming the horns: On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin sheet. Cut it into triangles or rectangles, depending on your preference. Place a teaspoon of the apple filling at the base of each triangle and roll gently, forming the horns.

6. Second rising: Place the formed horns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or greased with a little oil. Let them rise for another 15 minutes.

7. Brushing and baking: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Beat the egg and mix it with 2 tablespoons of milk. Brush the horns with this mixture to achieve a golden and appetizing crust. Bake the horns for 25-30 minutes or until golden.

8. Finishing and serving: After removing them from the oven, you can brush them with a mixture of 2 tablespoons of sugar dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water for an attractive shine. Serve them dusted with vanilla sugar alongside a cup of coffee or tea.

Useful tips:
- Variations: You can experiment with other fruits, such as peaches or plums, to add a touch of diversity. You can also add nuts or raisins to the filling for extra texture.
- Cooking tricks: Make sure the apples are well packed in the horns to prevent leaking during baking. You can also sprinkle them with a little coconut for an exotic taste.
- Storing the horns: These apple horns keep well at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days.

Enjoy every bite of these apple horns, which will take you back to childhood at every meal!
