Beef Stew with Beer
Ingredients: * 500 g of beef * 1 onion * 4 medium potatoes * 1 bell pepper * 2 carrots * 300 grams of mushrooms * 1 can of tomatoes in their own juice * 10 tablespoons of oil * garlic * 2 tablespoons of starch * 1 dark beer * fresh parsley
To prepare a delicious beef stew, the first essential step is to ensure that we have all the necessary ingredients at hand. We start by cleaning and chopping the vegetables, making sure each ingredient is ready to contribute to the rich flavors of this dish. We cut the onion into small cubes, the carrot into thin rounds, the bell peppers into strips, and the mushrooms into slices. We chop the potatoes into cubes and portion the beef into medium-sized pieces.
Once we finish chopping, we begin to sauté the beef in a hot pan, adding a little oil to achieve a nicely browned crust. We let it brown well, then remove it from the heat and set it aside to deal with the vegetables. In the same pan, we add the onion and sauté it until it becomes translucent, then we add the carrot, bell peppers, and mushrooms. We stir constantly to avoid burning the vegetables and let them soften a bit, then add the chopped potatoes.
After the vegetables are lightly sautéed, we add the beef back into the pan. We generously season with salt and pepper, allowing all the ingredients to blend together for about 10 minutes. This cooking time allows the flavors to develop and intensify. Then, we add the dark beer, which will provide a hint of bitterness and complexity to the dish, and another 100 ml of water to create a savory sauce.
We transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover it with a lid or aluminum foil. We put the dish in the oven, preheated to 180 degrees Celsius, for about an hour. It is important to check from time to time if it is not running out of liquid; if we notice it is too thick, we can add a little water to maintain the desired consistency.
Once the cooking time has expired, we take the dish out of the oven and add the tomato juice, which will further enrich the flavor of the stew. We dissolve the starch in two tablespoons of water and add it to the mixture to thicken the sauce, and we add the finely chopped garlic, which will give a distinct flavor. We put the dish back in the oven for another 20 minutes, letting all the flavors combine perfectly.
Once the time is up, the beef stew is ready to be served. We serve it hot, sprinkled with freshly chopped parsley, which will add a note of freshness and color. This stew is perfect alongside a serving of polenta or fresh bread to soak up the delicious sauce. Enjoy every bite and cherish the moments spent around the table!
