Mulled Wine

Ingredients: -1L dry red wine -200g sugar -10 cloves -1 stick of cinnamon -1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon -1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg -peel from 2 oranges (the peel must be whole, not grated)

To prepare a warm and comforting drink, we start by ensuring we have all the necessary ingredients on hand. It's important to choose a quality wine, as this will influence the final taste of the preparation. We can also add various spices and fruits to enrich the aroma. The basic ingredients include, besides wine, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and slices of orange or lemon.

Once we are ready, we will put all the ingredients in a pot, making sure to respect the proportions. For example, for every liter of wine, we can add 100 grams of sugar, 2-3 cinnamon sticks, and a few cloves. The fruits can be added whole or cut, depending on preferences. It is important to gently mix the ingredients to combine well.

Once we have put the pot on the heat, we wait for the mixture to start boiling. When the wine is boiling, we reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. This process will allow the flavors to unfold and integrate perfectly. Be careful not to let it boil too long, as the alcohol will evaporate and the drink will lose its character.

After 5 minutes, it's time to strain the mixture through a cheesecloth or a fine sieve to remove the spices and fruit slices. This way, we will obtain a clear and aromatic drink. It is essential to serve the wine warm to enjoy all its flavors. If not consumed immediately, keep the drink in a thermos or on low heat, being careful not to leave it on an open flame, as it may evaporate.

To brighten up the serving, we can add a slice of orange or a few pink peppercorns in each glass. This will not only add a pleasant appearance but will also enhance the aroma of the mulled wine. It is a perfect drink for cold winter evenings, alongside friends or family, bringing a sense of warmth and conviviality. Savor each sip and let yourself be carried away by the enticing aromas, enjoying the present moment.
