To prepare these delicious syrup donuts, start by putting a generous amount of water in a pot, along with a pinch of salt, and bring them to a boil over medium heat. When the water starts to boil, gradually add the flour, stirring with a spatula or wooden spoon. It is important to stir continuously to avoid lumps. Continue to add flour until all of it is incorporated and the dough becomes homogeneous, elastic, and smooth.

Once you have a good dough, add the baking soda and mix again to integrate it evenly. This ingredient will help the donuts become fluffy and rise nicely during baking. After mixing well, grease your palms with a little oil to prevent the dough from sticking. Take a portion of the dough and shape it into round donuts, making sure to keep them uniform in size. Place them on a greased tray, leaving a little space between them, but ensuring they are placed closely together. Gently press the center of each donut with your finger to give them a nice shape.

After filling the tray, place it in a preheated oven at medium temperature (about 180 degrees Celsius) and let the donuts bake until they become golden and browned. While the donuts are baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, mix 1 1/2 cups of water with sugar and honey, then place the saucepan on the heat. Allow the mixture to boil, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the syrup takes on a slightly thicker consistency.

Once the donuts are ready, remove the tray from the oven and carefully pour the hot syrup over them. Cover the tray with aluminum foil to retain moisture and leave the donuts in the turned-off oven so they can absorb the syrup. After about 15-20 minutes, when the donuts have absorbed the syrup, remove the tray and let them cool slightly.

Finally, gently separate the donuts from each other and place them on a serving platter. Sprinkle ground nuts, hazelnuts, or coconut on top, according to your preference, for an extra touch of flavor. These syrup donuts are delicious warm, but can also be enjoyed at room temperature, making them perfect to accompany a cup of coffee or tea. Enjoy!

 Ingredients: 400 g flour, 500 ml water, 100 g sugar, 50 g honey, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 50 g ground walnuts or hazelnuts (I didn't have any, so I used coconut), salt, a little oil (1/2 teaspoon)
