Heart Cookies for Valentine's Day
These adorable heart-shaped cookies are perfect for celebrating love in a sweet and memorable way. Whether you give them to your loved one or enjoy them together, these heart-shaped cookies with strawberry jam and red gelatin decoration will surely make the celebration more special. Let's get started!
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 15-20 minutes
Total time: 50 minutes
Number of servings: 12-15 hearts
Ingredients:
- 125 g butter (at room temperature)
- 2 egg yolks
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 250 g flour
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Strawberry jam (for filling)
- Red gelatin (for decoration, according to package instructions)
Preparation:
1. Start by preparing the cream: in a bowl, beat 125 g of butter with 100 g of powdered sugar until you achieve a creamy and fluffy mixture. This step is essential to ensure a fine texture for your cookies.
2. Add the 2 egg yolks, continuously mixing to incorporate them well into the mixture. It is important for the eggs to be at room temperature for better integration.
3. Sift 250 g of flour over the butter and egg mixture. Add the 2 tablespoons of milk and mix everything with a spatula or wooden spoon until the dough becomes homogeneous. Do not overwork the dough to avoid it becoming elastic and tough.
4. Once the dough is well mixed, form a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap. Place the dough in the fridge for 20-30 minutes. This step will help harden the butter, making it easier to roll out the dough later.
5. After the dough has cooled, divide it into two equal parts. Roll out each part on a floured surface to a thickness of about 5 mm. Use a heart-shaped cutter to cut out the shapes.
6. From one part of the dough, cut out whole heart shapes, and from the other part, use a smaller cutter to create hearts with a 'cut-out' center. The latter will allow the jam to be visible, giving a more attractive appearance.
7. Place the hearts on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake them in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15-20 minutes, until they turn slightly golden. Make sure to check them constantly, as every oven bakes differently.
8. Once baked, let the hearts cool on a cooling rack. The whole shapes are spread with strawberry jam, while the cut-out ones are dusted with powdered sugar.
9. Assemble the cookies by sticking two hearts together with jam in the middle. This step will not only give them a delicious taste but will also add a touch of elegance.
10. For an extra effect, prepare the red gelatin according to the package instructions and add it to the center of the hearts. This will enhance the red hue and add an interesting texture.
Serving suggestions: These hearts are best served cold, after the gelatin has set well. You can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a chocolate sauce for a delicious contrast.
Possible variations: Instead of strawberry jam, you can use raspberry or cherry jam to change the flavor. You can also add a few drops of vanilla extract to the dough for an even richer taste.
These Valentine's Day hearts are not just a treat but also a declaration of love. Enjoy every moment spent in the kitchen, and the final result will surely please your loved ones!
