Easter Roll
Festive Roll for Easter
Every year, as Easter approaches, we have the opportunity to gather around the table and enjoy delicious dishes that delight our senses and remind us of beautiful traditions. The roll I will present today is not only a tasty dish but also a culinary gem that will attract the attention of all guests. This recipe is a quick and simple dessert to prepare, perfect for holidays or any special occasion.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 15 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Number of servings: 8
Ingredients:
For the base:
- 500 ml boiled milk
- 5 eggs
- 5-6 tablespoons of flour
- 80 g butter (cut into cubes)
- 100 g black olives (sliced)
- 1 bunch of fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the filling:
- 400 g sour cream cheese
- 150 g ham (sliced)
- 2 bell peppers (in 2 colors, sliced)
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 boiled eggs (diced)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Green onion tops (for garnish)
Preparation instructions:
1. Preparing the base: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs well with a whisk or mixer until frothy. Add the cubed butter and mix until melted and fully integrated.
2. Adding dry ingredients: Next, incorporate the flour, salt, and pepper, mixing gently to avoid lumps. Finally, thin the mixture with the boiled milk, stirring constantly until you obtain a smooth batter.
3. Baking the base: Line a baking tray with parchment paper and grease it with a little butter. Pour the batter into the tray, leveling it evenly. Arrange the sliced olives in rows, as aligned as possible. Sprinkle the parsley on top.
4. Placing in the oven: Preheat the oven to 180°C and place the tray inside. Let the base bake for about 15 minutes, being careful not to burn it. When done, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
5. Preparing the filling: In a separate bowl, mix the sour cream cheese with the 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, diced boiled eggs, salt, and pepper. Ensure that the ingredients are well integrated and that you obtain a smooth cream.
6. Assembling the roll: Once the base has cooled sufficiently, remove it from the tray along with the paper. Gently roll it in a damp kitchen towel, allowing it to cool completely. This trick will help maintain the shape of the roll.
7. Filling and rolling: Once cooled, unroll the base, remove the parchment paper, and spread the cheese cream evenly over the entire surface. Place the strips of ham, colored peppers, and green onion tops, then carefully roll it up, ensuring it stays tight.
8. Cooling the roll: Wrap the roll in the damp towel or in cling film and place it in the refrigerator for a few hours, ideally overnight. This step is essential for achieving the perfect texture and for the flavors to meld.
9. Serving: When ready to serve, cut the roll into slices with a sharp knife. Arrange the slices on a nice platter and, if desired, garnish with a little chopped fresh parsley.
Useful tips:
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting to prepare, to achieve a uniform composition.
- You can experiment with various types of cheese or add ingredients like green olives or chili peppers for extra flavor.
- The roll can be served both as an appetizer and as a main dish alongside a fresh salad.
Nutritional benefits:
This roll is rich in protein due to the eggs and cheese, while the vegetables add essential vitamins and fiber for a balanced diet. Additionally, olives are an excellent source of healthy fats.
Frequently asked questions:
- Can the roll be frozen? It is recommended to consume it fresh, but you can keep it in the freezer to enjoy later, making sure to wrap it well.
- Can I use other types of meat? Of course! You can use boiled chicken or turkey, depending on your preferences.
Ideal combinations:
This roll pairs perfectly with a glass of fresh white wine or a refreshing lemonade. Additionally, a salad of raw vegetables or a yogurt garlic sauce will complement the dish's flavor.
Personal note:
This roll is a family favorite, and I fondly remember the times I prepared it together with my grandmother, who always added a dash of love to every recipe. I hope it brings you joy and beautiful memories too!
Enjoy and happy holidays!
