THE HISTORY OF ROSE SLICES
This type of cake is an elegant combination of thin layers and delicious cream, with deep roots in the culinary traditions of many cultures. What makes this recipe special is its versatility; every housewife can add a personal touch through the chosen jam or type of nuts used. This is a perfect cake for special occasions, but also to bring a touch of joy to ordinary days.

INGREDIENTS
*For the dough:*
- 450 g flour
- 200 g butter (at room temperature)
- Grated zest and juice of one lemon
- 100 g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon sour cream
- 1 pinch of baking powder
- (optional) 2 tablespoons cocoa for a brown layer variation

*For the cream:*
- 3 egg whites
- 150 g sugar
- 150 g ground walnuts

*For the glaze:*
- 3 egg yolks
- 200 g powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Half a jar of sour jam (sour cherry is ideal)

STEPS FOR PREPARATION
1. Preparing the dough:
In a large bowl, mix the egg with the sugar and soft butter until you obtain a homogeneous and fluffy mixture. Then, add the sour cream, lemon zest, and juice, mixing well to combine the flavors.

2. Mixing the dry ingredients:
In another bowl, combine the flour with the baking powder. Then, gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the wet mixture, kneading well until you obtain a non-sticky dough. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour.

3. Dividing the dough:
Divide the dough into three equal parts. This step is essential to obtain the three layers of cake, so make sure the portions are equal.

4. Preparing the cream:
Beat the egg whites until foamy, then gradually add the sugar, continuing to mix until you obtain a glossy foam, similar to meringue. Carefully incorporate the ground walnuts, mixing gently to avoid destroying the air in the foam.

5. Assembling the cake:
Roll out one part of the dough into a thin layer and place it in a greased baking tray. Add a layer of sour jam, then roll out the second layer of dough and place it on top of the jam. Spread the walnut cream over the second layer, followed by the last layer of dough.

6. Baking:
Preheat the oven to a moderate temperature (180°C) and bake the cake for about 30 minutes or until golden and fragrant.

7. Glazing:
In a small bowl, mix the egg yolks with the powdered sugar and lemon juice. When the cake is ready, take it out of the oven and spread the glaze over the hot surface. Let it cool completely, then cut into portions.

USEFUL TIPS FOR A PERFECT RESULT
- Make sure the butter is at room temperature for easy incorporation into the mixture.
- Using a sour jam will balance the sweetness of the cake, adding a plus of balance.
- If you want a more sophisticated version, you can add a few drops of vanilla essence to the walnut cream.
- Instead of walnuts, you can use almonds or pistachios to vary the texture and taste of the cake.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Can I use other types of jam?
Of course! You can experiment with apricot, raspberry jams, or even rose jam for a floral taste.

2. How can I store the cake?
Rose slices store well in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days. If you want to freeze them, make sure to pack them well to avoid excessive freezing.

This cake contains about 250 calories per serving, being a good source of carbohydrates from sugar and flour, as well as healthy fats from nuts and butter.
