Jam Horns (Lenten)
Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you a recipe dear to me, a simple recipe but full of childhood memories. My grandmother used to prepare it during every fasting period, but also for holidays, and the aroma of freshly baked croissants filled the entire house with happiness and nostalgia. Let's start our culinary journey!
In a small pot, I put about 100 ml of water which I warmed slightly, just enough to make it lukewarm. Then, I added two tablespoons of sugar, a cube of yeast that I crumbled well, and three tablespoons of flour. I mixed everything with a fork, homogenizing the ingredients until I obtained a uniform mixture. After I saw that the yeast started to take effect, I let the dough rise in a warm place, away from drafts.
In the meantime, I took care of the other ingredients. I sifted the flour to give it a fluffy texture and prepared the kneading bowl. I lined the trays with a little flour to prevent the croissants from sticking. Here, the oven was preheated to a medium temperature, so I was ready to continue.
In the kneading bowl, I poured the oil and borscht, ingredients that will add a special flavor. I added the risen dough, the remaining two tablespoons of sugar, a pinch of salt, and I started to gradually add the flour, mixing constantly. After a few minutes of kneading, I obtained a malleable and homogeneous dough, which I let rise for an hour, covered with a clean towel.
After the dough had risen, I took a piece of it and rolled it out with a rolling pin on a surface sprinkled with flour. I cut the dough into medium-sized triangles, perfect for filling. On each triangle, I added a teaspoon of jam, choosing apricot, blackberry, or whatever else you prefer. Then, I carefully rolled them up, forming the croissants.
I arranged them in the prepared tray, making sure to leave a little space between them, as they will rise in the oven. I baked them for about 45-50 minutes until they turned a beautiful golden color. After taking them out of the oven, I let them cool a bit, then dusted them with powdered sugar for an appetizing look.
From these quantities, I ended up with three trays of croissants, each piece being an explosion of taste and memories. These croissants are not just a dessert, but a true journey back in time, to the tables filled with love and good cheer of my grandmother. I invite you to make them and enjoy every bite!
