Cheese and poppy seed boats
The dough is the base of this delicious recipe and must be prepared with maximum attention to achieve a perfect texture. We start by sifting the flour into a large bowl, adding salt and poppy seeds, which will give it a unique taste and unmistakable aroma. Fresh yeast is essential, so we rub it with sugar until it dissolves completely, then pour the mixture over the flour in the bowl. We begin to knead with our hands, gradually adding the egg and milk, so that we obtain a homogeneous and non-sticky dough. It is important that the milk is at room temperature to activate the yeast effectively. Once we achieve a good consistency, we add the oil and continue kneading until it is fully incorporated, and the dough becomes elastic and smooth.
We cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, until it doubles in volume. In the meantime, we take care of the filling. In another bowl, we put the crumbled cheese by hand, sour cream, and eggs. It is important that the cheese is of good quality, preferably fresh, which will bring a special creaminess to the filling. We wash the greens, remove the stems, and chop them finely, then add them to the cheese. We mix well by hand, seasoning with salt and dried basil, to achieve a harmonious and flavorful taste.
After the dough has risen, we divide it into seven equal balls. We take the first ball and roll it out on a floured surface, giving it an oval shape. We place the filling in the middle, then fold the sides of the dough slightly over the filling, but without completely covering it. We twist the ends, forming a delicacy that will catch anyone's attention. We proceed this way with all the dough balls, ensuring that the filling is evenly distributed.
We carefully place these shapes in a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Beating an egg into a froth, we use a brush to glaze them, giving them a golden and shiny color when baked. We place the tray in the preheated oven at the right temperature and let them brown nicely, transforming into aromatic treats, ready to be enjoyed with loved ones. This recipe is not just about preparation, but also about the joy of bringing family and friends together around the table. Enjoy your meal!
