Chocolate or Nut Caramels

 Ingredients: 400 g flour, 100 g butter, a pinch of salt, chocolate, ground walnuts with sugar and flavors

To create a delicious and refined dessert, start by preparing a perfect dough that will serve as the base for these treats. In a large bowl, pour the sifted flour, making sure it is well aerated to achieve a fluffier dough. Add the cubed butter, which should be at room temperature, and rub it into the flour using your fingertips until you achieve a texture similar to breadcrumbs. This will ensure a tender and flavorful dough. Begin to add lukewarm water gradually, mixing continuously until the dough starts to come together. Continue to knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for a few minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. This resting time will allow the gluten to relax, making it easier to roll out later.

After the dough has chilled, remove it and roll it out on a floured surface using a rolling pin until you achieve a thin sheet, about 2-3 mm thick. Using a knife or a grater, cut the dough into squares of about 8 cm by 8 cm. These will be perfect for wrapping the chosen filling. You can use pieces of dark, white, or milk chocolate, depending on your preferences, or you can opt for ground nuts mixed with sugar, thus obtaining a flavorful and crunchy filling.

On each square of dough, place a small portion of the chosen filling, then lift the corners of the squares and carefully twist them, pinching the edges to form a small package, resembling a caramel. Make sure the edges are well sealed to prevent the filling from leaking during frying.

Prepare a deep pan with hot oil over medium heat. When the oil is well heated, carefully add one of the dough packages at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pan to allow for even frying. Let them fry until golden and crispy, turning them occasionally to brown evenly on all sides. After frying, remove them to a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Finally, dust them with powdered sugar to add a touch of sweetness and an attractive appearance. These delicious packages can be served warm, as a dessert or a sweet snack, and will surely impress anyone who tastes them!
