Martyrs of Lent
To prepare a delicious fluffy bread recipe, we start by activating the yeast. In a small bowl, we add a teaspoon of sugar and about 100 ml of warm milk. We mix well, then sprinkle the dry yeast on top and let it sit for 10 minutes. This step is essential to ensure the yeast is active, which will help the dough rise beautifully. After this time, the mixture will become frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.
Next, in a larger bowl, we put about 500 g of flour, which we sift to aerate it and avoid lumps. We make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the yeast mixture. We start incorporating the flour with a spatula, gradually adding milk (about 200 ml) until we achieve a consistency similar to that of thick sour cream. It is important that the dough is slightly sticky but not overly wet.
Once we have a homogeneous mixture, we cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in volume. Once the dough has risen, we prepare to shape the rolls, so we grease our hands with a little oil to prevent the dough from sticking. We divide the dough into equal pieces, which we shape into round forms.
We place the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between them to rise during baking. We cover the tray again with a towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes. During this time, we preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. After the rolls have risen nicely, we brush them with soy milk to achieve a golden and crispy crust.
We bake the breads at moderate heat for 25-30 minutes, until they turn golden and sound hollow when tapped. After taking them out of the oven, we brush them with warm honey to add extra flavor, and then sprinkle ground nuts on top to complete this delicious dessert. We let them cool slightly, then serve with pleasure, admiring the fluffy texture and inviting aroma of this treat. This recipe is not only simple but also brings a smile to the faces of loved ones!
