Chia Coffee
Ingredients: For the two layers with coffee: - 200 ml of freshly brewed espresso or 200 ml of coffee (according to preference - for a less intense flavor, use filter coffee). Use your preferred coffee (I used chocolate and raspberry flavored coffee added in a French press in the following proportion: 200 ml water - 7.5 g coffee) - 2 teaspoons of agave syrup (or to taste) - 1 and 1/4 tablespoons of chia seeds (or to taste - the amount of chia seeds added will directly affect the consistency of the drink). For the two layers with milk: - 200 ml of vanilla soy milk - 1 and 1/4 tablespoons of chia seeds - a pinch of finely ground salt - cinnamon powder (optional). For topping/decor (optional, to taste): - Whipped cream - Agave syrup - Chocolate syrup - Macadamia nuts.
To create a delicious and comforting drink that combines the intense flavors of coffee with the creaminess of milk, follow the steps below. This recipe is perfect for lazy mornings or as a refreshing dessert on hot summer days.
For the coffee layers, start by brewing the coffee. Use quality coffee, whether you choose to brew it with a coffee machine, a filter, or in a French press. If you opt for the press, make sure to respect the brewing times to achieve an intense and rich flavor. Once the coffee is ready, pour it into a glass container, having the option to use it either hot or cold, depending on your preference.
Then add the agave syrup and mix well until it completely dissolves. It is essential to consider the temperature of the coffee; if you use cold coffee, the agave syrup will require more time to dissolve. After the syrup is fully integrated, add 1 and 1/4 tablespoons of chia seeds, stirring gently to prevent clumping. Place the container in the refrigerator and leave it there until the liquid cools down. It’s fascinating how chia seeds absorb the liquid, transforming into a gelatinous consistency, perfect for adding texture to your drink.
For the milk layers, heat a little milk and use a frothing device to achieve a rich and airy foam. Add to the container 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of chia seeds, a pinch of salt, and a dash of cinnamon, gently stirring to combine the flavors. Similar to the coffee, place the container in the refrigerator and leave it until the liquid cools completely.
When both layers are ready, it’s time to assemble the drink. Layer the two mixtures alternately in clear glasses so you can observe the beauty of the combination of coffee and milk. You can play with the proportions, adding more coffee or more milk, depending on your taste.
For an extra burst of flavor, add toppings of your choice: you can opt for grated chocolate, toasted nuts, or even a splash of vanilla. Finally, dust the upper rim of the glass with powdered sugar and decorate the top layer of frothed milk with a few small pieces of macadamia nuts. These details not only add an attractive look but also a burst of textures and flavors. Serve this drink cold and enjoy every sip!
