Appetizer Croissants
Appetizer crescents with cheese, salami, and red pepper
If you're looking for a quick and delicious recipe, appetizer crescents are the perfect choice. These little delights are ideal for serving at a party, a picnic, or simply as a snack between meals. Due to their versatility, you can use any ingredients you have on hand, so let's see how you can prepare them!
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Baking time: 30 minutes
Total time: 50 minutes
Number of servings: 4-6 servings
Ingredients for the dough:
- 250 g flour
- 200 ml lukewarm water
- a pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 4 tablespoons oil
Filling:
- cheese (or preferred cheese)
- salami (or any preferred cold cuts)
- red pepper (or vegetables of your choice)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
Step 1: Preparing the dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour with the salt and baking powder. This combination will ensure a light and fluffy texture for your crescents. Gradually add the lukewarm water, mixing with a spatula or wooden spoon. It is important that the water is lukewarm, as it helps activate the yeast in the dough and achieve an ideal consistency.
Once you've integrated the water, add the egg and oil. Knead the dough vigorously for about 5-7 minutes. The dough should be tender, smooth, and not stick to your hands. If you notice it's too wet, you can add a little more flour; if it's too dry, add some water. Once you've achieved the desired consistency, let the dough rest for 10 minutes, covered with a damp towel.
Step 2: Preparing the filling
While the dough is resting, you can prepare the filling. Cut the cheese and salami into small cubes, and the red pepper into strips or cubes, depending on your preference. You can experiment with other ingredients, such as mushrooms, olives, or even fresh herbs, to add extra flavor.
Step 3: Shaping the crescents
After the dough has rested, roll it out on a floured surface until you achieve a thin sheet. Use a knife or a pastry cutter to cut the dough into squares of about 7x7 cm. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each square and roll it into a crescent shape, making sure the filling is well sealed inside.
Step 4: Baking the crescents
Line a baking tray with flour or baking paper. Place the crescents on the tray and brush them with the egg yolk using a pastry brush, to give them an appetizing golden color. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and bake the crescents for 30 minutes, until they become golden and crispy.
Step 5: Serving
The appetizer crescents are served warm, straight from the oven, alongside a yogurt or sour cream dip for a contrast of flavors. You can garnish them with a little fresh herbs for a more elegant look.
Bonus: Variations
If you want to experiment, you can add spices like oregano or basil to the dough, or try different fillings, such as feta cheese with olives or grilled vegetables. These appetizer crescents are an excellent solution for using up leftover ingredients and creating a delicious dish.
Now that you know how to prepare these appetizer crescents, all that's left is to enjoy them with your loved ones!
