Roll with Cheese and Sausages
To prepare a delicious recipe for a meat and cheese stuffed roll, start by kneading a dough that will form the base of this tasty dish. Use 500 g of white flour, 2 eggs, a teaspoon of salt, and if necessary, add a little warm water to obtain an elastic dough, similar to that for noodles. Knead the dough well for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and homogeneous. Cover it with a damp towel and let it rest.
In a large skillet, heat 3-4 tablespoons of sunflower oil and add one large onion, finely chopped. Sauté the onion over medium heat until it becomes transparent and soft, about 5-7 minutes. Then, add 500 g of minced meat (pork, beef, or a combination) and a few tablespoons of broth (chicken or vegetable) to prevent sticking. Cover the skillet and let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking. After the meat is well cooked, add 2-3 tablespoons of tomato paste, a teaspoon of dried thyme, and mix well. Let it cook for another 1-2 minutes, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the filling to cool in a bowl.
After the dough has rested, sprinkle the work surface with flour and roll out a thin sheet of dough, about 2-3 mm thick. Evenly place slices of cheese (about 200 g) over the entire surface of the dough, leaving the edges free. On top of the cheese, place the cooled meat filling, and at one end, add a few slices of smoked sausage for extra flavor. Carefully roll the dough starting from the end with the sausage, forming a tight roll.
Transfer the roll to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brushing a beaten egg on the surface of the roll will give it a golden and appetizing crust. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and bake the roll for 30-35 minutes or until it is well baked and browned. 10 minutes before removing it from the oven, brush the roll again with a beaten egg yolk, sprinkle grated cheese and a little oregano on top for extra flavor.
After the roll is baked, let it cool on a rack. Cut it into suitable slices and serve it as an appetizer or main course, alongside a side of fresh vegetables or a colorful salad. This roll is not only tasty but also visually appealing, perfect for impressing guests at any festive meal. Bon appétit!
