Strawberry and Basil Mille-feuille Recipe

Discover the magic of a refined and elegant dessert inspired by French tradition – Strawberry and Basil Mille-feuille. This dessert, also known as Napoleon, is a delicious combination of crispy puff pastry layers, vanilla cream, and aromatic strawberries. I will guide you step by step to achieve a perfect result, adding a touch of originality by using basil.

Preparation time: 1 hour
Baking time: 30 minutes
Total time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Number of servings: 8

### Ingredients:
- 400 g frozen puff pastry
- 1 egg (for brushing the dough)
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 250 ml heavy cream (cold)
- 200 g powdered sugar (for decoration)
- 600 g strawberries
- A few sprigs of fresh basil
- 50 g white chocolate
- 1 vanilla pod
- Powdered sugar for decoration

### Instructions:

1. Preparing the puff pastry:
Preheat the oven to 180-200 degrees Celsius. On a floured surface sprinkled with powdered sugar, roll out a sheet of puff pastry into a rectangle of 28x30 cm. Transfer the sheet onto a baking paper, then sprinkle with sugar. Repeat this process for the other two sheets of puff pastry.

2. Baking the puff pastry sheets:
Cover the last sheet with another piece of baking paper and place a weight on top, such as a ceramic lid, to prevent puffing. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, until the sheets are crispy and golden. After baking, let them cool completely on a cooling rack.

3. Preparing the vanilla cream:
Make sure the heavy cream is well chilled. In a bowl, whip the cream with 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar and the seeds extracted from the vanilla pod. Continue mixing until the cream becomes firm and does not flow.

4. Preparing the strawberries:
Wash and hull the strawberries, keeping a few for decoration. Cut the rest into 3-4 pieces. Season them with finely chopped basil and add a few drops of lemon juice to enhance the flavors. Fold the strawberries into the whipped cream, mixing gently to obtain a homogeneous composition. Let the cream chill in the refrigerator.

5. Assembling the dessert:
Once the puff pastry sheets have completely cooled, trim the edges to obtain equal rectangles. Place the first puff pastry sheet on a serving platter, add half of the strawberry cream, leveling with a spatula. Place the second puff pastry sheet, followed by the remaining cream. Melt the white chocolate and drizzle it over the last sheet, then generously sprinkle powdered sugar. Smooth the cream on the edges for an elegant appearance.

### Practical Tips:
- If you want to save time, you can prepare the puff pastry sheets and cream the night before. It is recommended to add the basil to the whipped cream just before assembling to keep the fresh aroma.
- Do not throw away the vanilla pod after using the seeds; keep it in an airtight container with granulated sugar to make homemade vanilla sugar.
- For an interesting contrast, try adding a drop of orange liqueur to the cream or using other seasonal fruits like raspberries or peaches.

### Serving:
Let the Mille-feuille sit at room temperature for two hours before serving, to allow the flavors to develop. This dessert pairs perfectly with a fresh strawberry salad with basil, adding a touch of freshness and color to the plate. Enjoy every bite of this refined delicacy!
