Baked fish - Greek style
Ingredients: 1 kg of fish (I used mackerel) 200 ml of white wine 200 ml of tomato juice 50 ml of oil 1 lemon 6 cloves of garlic 1-2 bay leaves salt pepper, thyme - I used fish spices that contain (basil, garlic, buckwheat, thyme, allspice, parsley).
To prepare this delicious baked fish, we start by choosing a fresh fish, such as sea bream or bass, which will add a special flavor to our dish. We take a heat-resistant dish, ideal for the oven, and place the cleaned and gut fish inside it. Over the fish, we squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon, which will bring a tangy taste and a unique fragrance.
After pouring the lemon juice, we season the fish with salt, pepper, and, if desired, we can also add some herbs, such as dill or parsley, for an extra flavor. We cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for 30 minutes, so the fish can marinate and absorb all the flavors.
In the meantime, we prepare the sauce that will accompany the fish. In a bowl, we mix tomato juice, white wine, extra virgin olive oil, and dried thyme. This combination will create a rich and aromatic sauce that will enhance our fish. After the 30 minutes have passed, we take the fish out of the fridge and pour the previously prepared sauce over it, making sure it is evenly distributed.
We adjust the taste of the sauce by adding salt and pepper to taste, then we place the dish in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius. The baking time will be about 40-50 minutes, depending on the size of the fish. During baking, the sauce will thicken, becoming similar to that found in canned fish in tomato sauce, providing an attractive and appetizing appearance.
In the end, the fish will be perfectly cooked, and the sauce will be rich and full of flavors. We recommend serving this dish with fresh lemon slices, which add a sour and refreshing taste, as well as various sides, such as boiled rice, baked potatoes, or boiled vegetables. We chose to serve it with polenta, which was an excellent choice, perfectly complementing the taste of the fish. This recipe is not only easy to make but also a true feast for the taste buds!
