The Poor Man's Rice
To prepare delicious and aromatic rice, we start by washing the rice well. Choose a quality rice, preferably long-grain, which will absorb flavors well. Wash the rice in several waters until they become clear, to remove excess starch. This is an essential step, as it will help achieve less sticky and fluffier rice.
In a pot, we heat the butter, choosing a generous amount to add a rich flavor to the dish. Once the butter has melted and started to foam, we add the washed rice. We let the rice fry over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it changes color, becoming slightly brown. This initial frying will intensify the rice's flavor and contribute to its final texture.
After the rice has taken on a pleasant hue, we add the three tablespoons of sour cream, which will bring extra creaminess and taste. We continue to fry the mixture for 2-3 minutes, so the sour cream integrates well and enriches the flavors. It is time to add water, making sure to use the same cup we measured the rice with – three cups of water will be enough to cook the rice perfectly.
Add salt to taste, keeping in mind that it will significantly influence the final dish. We also add a handful of chopped fresh parsley, which will add a note of freshness and a pleasant color. After mixing well, we let the rice simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
When the water has almost completely reduced, and the rice is nearly cooked, we add the three tablespoons of grated cheese, which will melt and bind the rice, bringing a savory taste. We mix well to incorporate the cheese and let the dish rest covered for 10 minutes. This resting time will allow the flavors to combine and improve the rice's texture.
The resulting rice will be delicious and perfect as a side dish with roasts or saucy dishes, adding extra flavor to your meals. Enjoy your meal!
