When it comes to pretzels, nothing compares to their aroma and texture, especially when made at home. The preparation process is simple, but the result is truly delicious. To begin, make sure you have all the ingredients on hand. This recipe can be made either with a bread machine or by hand, depending on your preferences. If you decide to use the bread machine, all you need to do is add the ingredients in the correct order, but don’t forget that it’s just as enjoyable to knead the dough by hand.

If you notice that the dough is too soft, feel free to add a little extra flour until you achieve a non-sticky but still pliable consistency. Once the dough is ready, let it rest for 30 minutes in a draft-free place so that it has time to double in volume. This step is essential for getting fluffy and tasty pretzels.

In the meantime, prepare the salty mixture with which you will brush the pretzels. Mix the flour, salt, and water, adjusting the amount of water to achieve a consistency similar to that of pancake batter. This salty glaze will add extra flavor to the pretzels, making them even more delicious.

Preheat the oven to 240 degrees Celsius, or 465 degrees Fahrenheit, to ensure even and quick baking. On an oiled work surface, turn the dough out and divide it into equal pieces, between 20 and 24, depending on how large you want the pretzels to be. Each piece should then be rolled into a long rope about 40-50 cm long and 1 cm thick. Each rope is then folded in half to form a pretzel.

Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 5 minutes at room temperature. This step will help achieve a fluffier texture. After the pretzels have risen, brush them with beaten egg to give them a beautiful and shiny color during baking.

Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then take them out and sprinkle the salt mixture in a zigzag pattern to give them that characteristic salty taste. Put them back in the oven for another 5 minutes, during which they will brown nicely, and the salty mixture will dry out, creating a delicious crust. Once done, let them cool slightly and enjoy them both warm and cold, alongside your favorite drink or as a snack between meals. These pretzels are perfect for any occasion and will surely be appreciated by everyone who tastes them.

Ingredients: 800 g flour (in the original recipe, it was 300 g type 400 flour and 500 g type 550, since I don't have those types at my market, I used what I usually use for bread, unbleached) 300 ml warm water, 200 ml warm milk 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt (I added two tablespoons of salt, I have the impression that the salt here is less 'salty') 15 g granulated yeast (I added four teaspoons) For finishing: 1 beaten egg 3 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon salt (again, I added more)
