To prepare these American chocolate and hazelnut cookies, we will start by ensuring we have all the ingredients at hand. We will need: 150 g of unsalted butter, 200 g of sugar, 1 large egg, 300 g of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 packet of vanilla sugar, a pinch of salt, 100 g of chopped hazelnuts, and 150 g of dark or milk chocolate, cut into small pieces. These ingredients will contribute to creating a perfect dough with a crispy texture and rich flavor.
The first step is to mix the sugar with the butter, making sure the butter is at room temperature to incorporate evenly. Using a mixer or a spatula, we will obtain a creamy and homogeneous mixture. Then, we add the egg, continuing to mix until it is fully integrated. It is important to ensure that the egg is well incorporated, as it will provide moisture and bind the ingredients together.
In another bowl, we sift the flour together with the baking powder and baking soda to avoid lumps. This step is essential for achieving a crumbly dough, so do not skip it. We bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 25 minutes or until the surface turns golden.
