Olive Croissants
Olive Crescents – The Delight that Enchants Any Table
If you are looking for a simple and quick recipe for a savory appetizer or a special snack, olive crescents are exactly what you need. These little delights, with a fluffy dough and aromatic filling, are perfect both warm and cold. Here’s how you can prepare this recipe step by step.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 25 minutes
Total time: 55 minutes
Number of servings: 12 crescents
Ingredients:
- 1 package of puff pastry (approximately 400 g) from the store
- 2 medium onions
- 150 g black olives (preferably pitted)
- A few sprigs of fresh parsley
- 100 g cheese
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- 2 tablespoons of butter (for sautéing the onion)
- 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
1. Start by preparing the ingredients. Peel and finely chop the onions. They will add a savory and sweet flavor to your crescents.
2. In a skillet, add the butter and let it melt over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5-7 minutes until golden and soft. Stir occasionally to avoid burning. Once the onion is sautéed, let it cool slightly.
3. Meanwhile, wash the parsley and chop it finely. This will add a touch of freshness and color to the filling. Grate the cheese finely, so it melts easily during baking.
4. In a large bowl, mix the sautéed onion (after it has cooled), chopped olives, chopped parsley, and 50 g of cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste. The mixture should be homogeneous and easy to shape.
5. On a clean surface, roll out the puff pastry. If you bought pre-cut pastry squares, skip this step. Otherwise, cut the dough into squares of about 10x10 cm.
6. Place a teaspoon of the filling mixture in one corner of each pastry square. Twist the dough to form a crescent, making sure to seal the corners well.
7. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Prepare a baking tray with parchment paper. Place the crescents on the tray, leaving a little space between them to expand during baking.
8. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush each crescent with it to achieve a golden and shiny crust. Sprinkle the remaining cheese and a pinch of sweet paprika on top.
9. Bake the crescents in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden and fluffy.
Once the crescents are ready, let them cool slightly before serving. They are excellent as an appetizer at parties, at a family meal, or simply as a delicious snack.
My personal tip: You can also add some dried herbs, such as oregano or basil, to the filling for an even more intense flavor. Additionally, if you want a vegetarian option, you can replace the olives with roasted bell peppers or sautéed mushrooms.
Enjoy these olive crescents and don’t forget to share them with your loved ones! Bon appétit!
