Lasagna is a classic Italian dish, perfect for family meals or special occasions. This recipe for lasagna with ground meat and white sauce is not only tasty but also easy to prepare. Follow the steps below to achieve a perfect result!
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion
- 500 g ground beef or a mix (beef and pork)
- 400 g tomato sauce
- 3-4 cloves of garlic
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 50 g butter
- 50 g flour
- 500 ml milk
- A pinch of saffron (optional, for extra flavor)
- Lasagna sheets (about 12-15 sheets, depending on the size of the dish)
- 200 g grated mozzarella
- 50 g grated parmesan
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Step 1: Preparing the meat filling
Start by finely chopping the onion. In a large skillet, add 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil and sauté the onion over medium heat until it becomes translucent (about 5 minutes). Add the ground meat and continue to sauté, stirring frequently, until it browns evenly. This step is essential for developing a deep flavor.
Step 2: Adding the tomato sauce
Once the meat is well cooked, add the tomato sauce, crushed garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes for the flavors to meld. Taste and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
Step 3: Preparing the white sauce
In a separate pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the flour and stir vigorously for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. Begin adding the milk gradually, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Continue cooking the sauce until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Finally, add a pinch of saffron and salt to taste.
Step 4: Blanching the lasagna sheets
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add salt and 1 tablespoon of oil. When the water is boiling, add the lasagna sheets and let them boil for 3-4 minutes, then remove them and place them on a clean towel to drain.
Step 5: Assembling the lasagna
Grease a baking dish with butter. Place a layer of lasagna sheets at the bottom of the dish, then add a layer of white sauce, followed by a layer of meat filling and grated mozzarella. Repeat this process (sheets, white sauce, meat, mozzarella) 3-4 times, depending on the amount of ingredients. Finally, sprinkle the parmesan on top and add 100 ml of tomato sauce to keep the lasagna moist.
Step 6: Baking
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake the lasagna for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until it becomes golden and bubbly.
Step 7: Serving
Once the lasagna is ready, let it cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Serve it warm, alongside a fresh green salad or a portion of crusty homemade bread.
Useful tips:
- You can add vegetables to the filling, such as zucchini or mushrooms, for a healthier version.
- If you prefer a spicier sauce, add chili flakes to the meat mixture.
- Substitute mozzarella with goat cheese for a more intense flavor.
