Cherry Pie: A Quick and Delicious Dessert
Making a cherry pie is a true delight, especially when cherries are in season. This simple and quick recipe is sure to become your favorite, perfect for enjoying with family or at a gathering with friends. Here’s how you can prepare this delicacy step by step.
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 45 minutes
Total: 1 hour 15 minutes
Servings: 8
Necessary ingredients:
For the dough:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 200 g granulated sugar
- 200 ml sour cream
- 1 whole egg + 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
For the filling:
- 1 kg cherries (preferably fresh, but you can also use frozen cherries)
- 50 g ground walnuts
- 150 g granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- 1 egg (for brushing on top)
Step 1: Preparing the dough
Start by preparing the dough. In a large bowl, sift the flour and sprinkle the baking powder over it. Add the salt and mix gently to combine the dry ingredients. In another bowl, combine the granulated sugar with the sour cream, whole egg, and egg yolk. Mix well until you achieve a smooth mixture. Then, gradually add the flour mixture, stirring with a spatula or by hand until the dough becomes firm and no longer sticks to the bowl.
Helpful tip: If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour, but be careful not to overdo it, as a dough that is too dry will make the pie dense.
Step 2: Preparing the filling
Wash the cherries and remove the pits. If you are using frozen cherries, make sure they are thawed and drained of excess water. In a bowl, mix the cherries with the granulated sugar and ground walnuts. The walnuts will add a pleasant texture and rich flavor, perfectly complementing the cherry aroma.
Step 3: Assembling the pie
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll out the first part on a floured surface until you have a sheet large enough to cover the bottom of a baking tray (approximately 30x40 cm). Place the dough sheet in the tray, sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the surface, then add the cherry mixture. Spread the cherries evenly, then cover with the second sheet of dough, which you can decorate with a fork or knife to allow steam to escape during baking.
Step 4: Baking
Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the pie for a golden and appetizing crust. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until it becomes golden and firm to the touch.
Step 5: Serving
Once the pie has cooled slightly, cut it into portions and serve it plain or with a dollop of sour cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This cherry pie will surely be a hit!
Possible variations:
If you want to add a touch of originality, you can replace some of the cherries with other seasonal fruits, such as blueberries or raspberries. You can also add cinnamon or vanilla to the cherry mixture to enhance the flavors.
This cherry pie is not only a simple recipe, but it is also a quick dessert that will bring you joy in every slice. It is a perfect choice for a summer day or to celebrate special moments with loved ones!
