Asparagus with Ham and Cheese
Ingredients: * 400 g asparagus * 2-3 slices of ham * 50-70 g Provolone, Fontina cheese (Italian cheeses) or cheese * 1 egg * parmesan * butter * salt and pepper * oregano or thyme
Asparagus, a vegetable with a refined taste and a crunchy texture, is perfect for being prepared in a dish that surprises with its flavor. Start by washing the asparagus well under cold running water, removing any impurities. Then, cut off the woody parts from the base of the stalks to achieve a pleasant texture. In a large pot, add water and a little salt, then bring to a boil. When the water starts to boil, carefully add the asparagus and let it boil for 3-5 minutes until it becomes slightly crunchy but not overly soft, so it retains its texture. After boiling, drain it well in a colander or bowl.
Next, prepare a baking dish that you will grease with a thin layer of butter, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Place the drained asparagus in the dish in a single layer to allow the ingredients to combine perfectly. Now is the time to add the thinly sliced ham, which will bring an extra touch of flavor. On top of the ham, add pieces of cheese or cheese, leaving gaps for the cheese to melt and integrate into the dish.
In a separate bowl, beat an egg with a pinch of salt, freshly ground pepper, and a pinch of dried oregano or thyme to add a special aroma. This mixture will cover the ingredients in the dish, providing a delicious and consistent layer. After pouring the beaten egg over the asparagus, add a generous layer of grated Parmesan cheese, which will give a crunchy and golden crust after baking.
Preheat the oven to a medium-high temperature, around 200 degrees Celsius. Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes, closely monitoring to ensure the cheese melts evenly and takes on a pleasant golden hue. When the cheese is well melted and slightly browned on the surface, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. This is a dish that can be enjoyed warm, alongside a fresh salad or even as an elegant appetizer at a festive meal. The flavors will blend beautifully, and the texture will be a delight for the taste buds.
