Get ready to enjoy a dessert that not only pleases the eye but also the taste buds! Wasp nest is a simple yet spectacular recipe, perfect for impressing guests or sweetening your day. Here’s how to prepare this wonderful dessert step by step.
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 500 g wheat flour (make sure it is of good quality for optimal texture)
- 25 g fresh yeast (avoid dry yeast for faster and more even rising)
- 3 tablespoons of sugar (you can use brown sugar for a deeper flavor)
- 50 ml oil (sunflower oil is ideal, but you can experiment with olive oil for a slightly different taste)
- 4 egg yolks (for a richer and yellower dough)
- 200 ml warm milk (check the temperature – it should not be hot, just warm enough to activate the yeast)
- 100 ml warm water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Grated zest of one lemon (for a spring fragrance)
For the cream:
- 200 g soft butter (at room temperature, to incorporate easily)
- 100 g sugar (you can also add a little cinnamon for extra flavor)
- 250 g ground walnuts (make sure they are freshly ground to keep their flavor)
For the syrup:
- 125 ml milk
- 150 g sugar
- Vanilla (you can use essence or a vanilla pod for an authentic taste)
Preparation method:
1. Preparing the dough: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water, adding 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This is an important technique to ensure the yeast is active.
2. In another bowl, mix the flour with salt, the remaining sugar, and lemon zest. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, oil, and egg yolks. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. A useful technique is to use your palms to stretch and fold the dough repeatedly.
3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for one hour or until it doubles in volume.
4. Preparing the cream: In a bowl, beat the soft butter with sugar until you get a creamy mixture. Add the ground walnuts and mix well. This cream will add a rich taste with every bite!
5. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Once the dough has risen, divide it into balls the size of golf balls. Flatten each ball and fill the center with a spoonful of walnut cream. Push the edges of the dough towards the center to form a nest.
6. Place the nests on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving enough space between them to rise. Let them rise for another 15-20 minutes.
7. Bake the nests in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden.
8. Preparing the syrup: In a small pot, combine the milk with sugar and vanilla. Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar completely dissolves. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, then let it cool.
9. After the nests have cooled, pour the syrup over them to soak them with flavor.
Serving suggestion: Serve the wasp nests warm or at room temperature, alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a chocolate sauce for a delicious contrast.
Variation: You can try adding different nuts or even dried fruits to the walnut cream to customize this recipe. Also, by replacing the walnuts with chopped chocolate, you’ll get a decadent version.
This wasp nest recipe will surely become a family favorite. Take advantage of special occasions or simply indulge yourself with this wonderful dessert!
