Preparation time: 30 minutes
Baking time: 30 minutes
Total time: 1 hour
Number of servings: 6
Necessary ingredients:
For the dough:
- 1 kg of flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- Warm water (approximately 300 ml, adjust as needed)
For the filling:
- 800 g of minced meat (a mix of pork and beef)
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg (for binding and added flavor)
- Spices to taste (salt, pepper, sweet paprika)
Step by step:
1. Preparing the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the olive oil, which not only improves the texture of the dough but also gives it a superb taste. Start adding warm water gradually, mixing constantly with a wooden spoon or your hands, until you obtain a homogeneous dough, not too hard and not too soft. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If it is too hard, you can add a bit more water.
2. Letting the dough rest: Cover the dough with a damp towel or plastic wrap and let it rest for about 15 minutes. This step will make the dough more elastic and easier to roll out.
3. Preparing the filling: In a pan, sauté the finely chopped onion in a little olive oil until it softens and becomes translucent. Add the minced meat and cook everything over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the meat changes color. Season with salt, pepper, and, if desired, a little sweet paprika for added flavor. Once the filling is ready, let it cool slightly and then add the egg, mixing well to bind the composition.
4. Forming the Suberek: Divide the dough into balls the size of a tennis ball. On a well-floured surface, take one ball of dough and roll it out with a rolling pin until you obtain a thin sheet. Make sure the sheet does not stick to the table; you can use extra flour if necessary. Place a portion of filling on one side of the sheet and fold the other side over the filling, sealing the edges well with a fork or by pressing with your fingers.
5. Baking: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Place the Suberek on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. You can brush the surface with a beaten egg for a golden and shiny crust. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until they become golden and crispy.
Practical tip: Serve the Suberek warm, alongside a fresh salad or a garlic yogurt sauce for a delicious contrast. This dish is also perfect for enjoying at a family meal or during gatherings with friends.
Possible variations: You can experiment with different fillings, such as cottage cheese mixed with greens or sautéed vegetables for a vegetarian option. You can also add spices like cumin or dill to the filling for a distinctive flavor.
Suberek is more than just a simple recipe – it is a culinary experience that will bring joy to your table! Enjoy every step and feel free to add your personal touch! Bon appétit!
