To prepare delicious battered onion rings, start by peeling the onion, removing the outer skin. Slice the onion into rings about one centimeter thick, being careful not to damage their shape. Gently separate the onion rings and remove the thin layers that are between them, as these can affect the final texture and crispiness of the dish. Once you have the onion rings, place them in a bowl with milk or cold water for 30 minutes. This step is essential to enhance their flavor and soften them slightly, making them more tender.

Meanwhile, prepare a mixture of beaten eggs. If desired, you can add a little milk to make the mixture creamier. In another bowl, combine all the dry ingredients – flour, salt, pepper, and, if you like, other spices such as paprika or garlic powder. Mix well until you get a homogeneous powder that will coat the onion rings in a delicious crust.

After the onion rings have soaked in milk or water, drain them well. Now, take each ring and dip it in the beaten egg, making sure it is well coated. Then, coat it in the flour and spice mixture. Repeat this process two or even three times to achieve a thick and crispy crust that will make the onion rings irresistible when fried.

In a deep skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Test the oil temperature by introducing a small amount of batter; if it sizzles, the oil is ready for frying. Carefully place the onion rings in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them on both sides until they are nicely browned, which should take about 3-4 minutes on each side. Use a spatula to carefully turn them so they don’t unfold.

Once the onion rings are golden and crispy, remove them with a spatula and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. As soon as you take them out of the pan, sprinkle them with grated parmesan, which will melt slightly on their hot surface, adding a savory touch.

Serve the onion rings hot, either as an appetizer or as a side dish alongside a juicy steak, or with a delicious mayonnaise and garlic sauce for a perfect contrast. These battered onion rings are not only a simple dish but also a delicacy that will surely impress anyone who tastes them!
