Baklava
The sheets are divided into three equal parts, and the nuts are carefully ground until they become a fine powder. Once ground, they are mixed with cinnamon, which will add a warm and comforting flavor. The ground nuts are also divided into two equal parts to be used at different stages of the preparation.
The margarine is melted well until it becomes liquid; a quick trick is to melt it in the microwave, which makes the process much more efficient. Take a sheet of pastry and place it in the prepared pan, generously brushing it with the melted margarine. Follow the same step with the next sheet, brushing it again, and continue until you have used the first third of the sheets.
Over these brushed sheets, sprinkle half of the nut and cinnamon mixture, ensuring it is evenly distributed. It is important to keep the sheets whole to use them for finishing the pastry, so be careful not to tear them in this process. Then, place the second third of sheets over the nut mixture, repeating the brushing operation with margarine. After that, sprinkle the remaining ground nuts, continuing with the last sheets, which will cover everything.
Once you have finished assembling the baklava, cover the pan to prevent it from drying out and let it sit in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes to firm up a bit. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, preparing for baking. When the time is up, take the pan out of the refrigerator and cut the baklava into portions, either squares or diamonds, according to your preferences. Bake it in the oven for about 25 minutes, or until it is nicely browned and crispy.
While the baklava is baking, prepare the delicious syrup. Mix the water with the sugar in a saucepan, then place the mixture over low heat. Once it starts to boil, add the honey and let it boil together, stirring gently, until the syrup comes to a boil. Finally, add a flavor, such as vanilla or lemon essence, to enhance the taste.
When the baklava is ready, take it out of the oven and pour the hot syrup over it, ensuring that each piece is well soaked. Let it absorb the syrup for a few minutes before serving, and the result will be a delicious baklava with crispy layers and flavorful filling. Enjoy this wonderful dessert, perfect for any occasion!
