Orange marmalade is not just a treat for the taste buds, but also an excellent way to preserve the fresh aroma of citrus fruits for an entire season. This simple and quick recipe transforms oranges into a tart and sweet delight, perfect for spreading on a slice of toast or adding to various desserts.

Total preparation time: 48 hours (including soaking time)
Cooking time: 1 hour
Number of servings: approximately 8 jars of 300 g

Necessary ingredients:
- 800 g oranges (choose quality oranges, preferably organic, for a more intense flavor)
- 1 kg sugar (white sugar is preferred for a clear marmalade, but you can experiment with brown sugar for a more complex flavor)
- 750 ml water (use filtered water for a purer taste)

Step 1: Preparing the oranges
Start by peeling the oranges. Make sure to remove the skin, leaving a thin layer of the white part, as this helps maintain the structure of the marmalade. At this point, it is important to choose ripe oranges with smooth, shiny skin to achieve a vibrant-tasting marmalade.

Step 2: Soaking the oranges
After peeling the oranges, place them in a large bowl with cold water, ensuring they are completely covered. Let them soak for 24 hours. This will help remove the bitterness from the white part of the peel and enhance the sweetness.

Step 3: Making the marmalade
After 24 hours, drain the oranges and cut them into small pieces, preferably thin slices. In a large container, add the oranges, sugar, and water. Mix the ingredients well and let them boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 4: Cooking
Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. You will know that the marmalade is ready when it reaches a jelly-like consistency. You can check the consistency using the "drop test": place a drop of marmalade on a cold plate and check if it sets.

Step 5: Jar the marmalade
Once the marmalade is cooked, pour it into sterilized jars, leaving a little space at the top. Seal the jars tightly and let them cool completely at room temperature.

Serving suggestions:
Orange marmalade is wonderful served on a slice of toasted bread with butter, but it can also be used as a filling for cakes, tarts, or even as a glaze for meat. Try adding it to yogurt or smoothies for a refreshing citrus note.

Possible variations:
To add an exotic touch, you can add a pinch of grated ginger or a few ground cloves during cooking. You can also combine oranges with lemons or grapefruits for a marmalade with a more complex flavor profile.

Storage:
Orange marmalade keeps well in sealed jars, in a cool, dark place, for up to a year. Once opened, keep the jar in the refrigerator and consume it within a few weeks.

With this orange marmalade recipe, you can transform seasonal fruits into a delight that will bring smiles to the faces of your loved ones. Enjoy every spoonful of this vibrant sweetness!
