Rugelach with Turkish Delight - a quick and delicious dessert
If you're looking for a simple yet incredibly tasty recipe, rugelach with Turkish delight is the perfect choice. This traditional Romanian dessert, characterized by its flaky dough and sweet Turkish delight filling, will bring joy to your tables! Here’s how to prepare them step by step.
Preparation time: 40 minutes
Baking time: 20 minutes
Total time: 1 hour
Number of servings: 25 rugelach
Ingredients:
- 1 kg flour
- 2 cups oil (preferably sunflower oil for a milder taste)
- 1 cup warm water
- 300 g Turkish delight (you can choose from a variety of flavors, such as rose or citrus)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet of dry yeast (7 g)
- A pinch of salt
- Powdered sugar for decoration (optional)
Preparation instructions:
1. Activating the yeast: In a small bowl, mix the dry yeast, salt, and tablespoon of sugar with warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy. This step is essential to activate the yeast and achieve a fluffy dough.
2. Preparing the dough: In a large bowl, add the sifted flour and pour in the activated yeast mixture. Gradually add the oil and start kneading the dough. Continue kneading until the dough becomes smooth and slightly elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little flour, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
3. Rising the dough: Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. During this time, the dough will increase in volume, becoming fluffier.
4. Shaping the rugelach: After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a thin sheet (about 5 mm thick). Use a knife or a special tool to cut the desired shape: rectangles or triangles.
5. Filling the rugelach: Cut the Turkish delight into small pieces. Place a piece of Turkish delight on each triangle of dough and carefully roll it up, starting from the base of the triangle, to form the rugelach. Make sure the filling is well sealed in the dough so that it doesn’t leak during baking.
6. Baking: Place the rugelach on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between them. Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the rugelach for 20 minutes, or until they turn golden.
7. Serving: Once cooled, sprinkle powdered sugar on top for an elegant look. These rugelach with Turkish delight are perfect alongside a cup of coffee or fragrant tea.
Practical tips:
- If you want to add an extra flavor, you can add a few drops of vanilla essence or lemon zest to the dough.
- These rugelach are very versatile; you can experiment with fillings of ground nuts, chocolate, or jam.
- To preserve them better, keep the rugelach in an airtight container.
Rugelach with Turkish delight are not only a delicious dessert but also a pleasant memory of childhood. Share them with your loved ones and enjoy every bite!
