Cabbage Salad with Chicken Breast
To prepare a delicious and fresh salad, we start with the basic ingredients. First, we take a fresh chicken breast, which we will boil in a pot of water with a little salt. We boil the breast for about 20 minutes, or until the meat becomes tender and cooks evenly. After boiling, we take the chicken breast out of the water and let it cool a bit, then we cut it into thin strips, julienne, to give it a pleasant texture in the salad.
Meanwhile, we take care of the vegetables. We take a small cabbage and chop it finely, making sure to get uniform pieces. The cabbage adds a crunchy taste and vibrant color to the salad. Then, we move on to the carrot. We peel the carrot and grate it, obtaining fine strands that will integrate perfectly into the mix. This combination of cabbage and carrot not only provides a pleasant texture but also a variety of essential nutrients.
In a large bowl, we combine the finely chopped cabbage with the grated carrot. To enhance the flavors, we add salt and mix well with our hands, gently squeezing the vegetables to release their juices and make them more tender. This is a simple yet effective technique that helps improve the final flavor of the salad.
After the vegetables are well mixed, we add the finely chopped onion, which will bring a note of sweetness and a slight spiciness to the salad. To complete the dish, we add freshly ground pepper, which will add a subtle flavor and a touch of intensity. Finally, we pour mayonnaise over the vegetable mixture. I prefer to add a spoonful of sour cream for extra creaminess, but this step is optional, depending on everyone’s preferences.
We carefully mix everything, ensuring that each ingredient is well coated with mayonnaise and sour cream. The salad can be served immediately, but it is recommended to let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes for the flavors to blend harmoniously. This dish is perfect as a side dish or as a light main course, alongside a slice of fresh bread. Enjoy your meal!
