Preparation
Step 1: Preparing the base
1. Preheat the oven: Start by preheating the oven to 180°C. This step is essential for achieving a fluffy base.
2. Beat the eggs: In a large bowl, add the eggs and a pinch of salt. Use a mixer to beat them until they double in volume, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Add the sugar: While continuing to mix, gradually add the sugar and vanilla sugar, mixing well.
4. Incorporate the oil: Add the oil and continue mixing for a few minutes.
5. Include the dry ingredients: Sift the flour and orange zest over the egg mixture. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to gently fold, avoiding losing air from the mixture.
6. Prepare the pan: Grease a round pan with oil and dust it with flour or use parchment paper. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Tip: If your oven bakes faster, check the base after 10 minutes!
Step 2: Preparing the syrup
1. Boil the water: In a small saucepan, place the water on the heat. When it starts to boil, add the sugar.
2. Add the essence: Stir until the sugar completely dissolves, then remove from heat and add the orange essence. Allow the syrup to cool.
Step 3: Preparing the pudding
1. Prepare the pudding: In a saucepan, add the pudding packet and 400 ml of milk. Cook according to the package instructions, but use 400 ml of milk instead of 500 ml for a creamier consistency.
2. Cool: Once the pudding has boiled, let it cool, stirring occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.
3. Incorporate the cream: When the pudding is warm but not hot, fold in 100 ml of whipped cream, stirring gently to achieve a creamy texture.
Step 4: Assembling the cake
1. Cut the base: Once the base has completely cooled, cut it into three equal discs.
2. Assemble: On a serving plate, place the first disc of the base and soak it with the orange syrup. Add a portion of pudding and sprinkle chocolate pieces.
3. Repeat: Place the second disc of the base, soak it, add pudding and chocolate, then finish with the last disc of the base, which you soak and cover with a thin layer of pudding.
4. Decoration: Spread grated chocolate on top of the cake and decorate with sugar paste figures and colored balls.
