Puppy Cookies
Ingredients: *100 grams butter *150 grams sugar (initially 190) *1 egg *2 teaspoons vanilla essence *260 grams flour *1 teaspoon baking powder *1 tablespoon cocoa *a few chocolate chips (decor for eyes) *coconut, walnut, raisins, cocoa, milk (filling)
To prepare these delicious cookies, we start by ensuring that all ingredients are ready and at the appropriate temperature. The first step is to mix the wheat flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt. It is important to use quality flour, as this will influence the final texture of the cookies. After mixing these dry ingredients, we turn our attention to the butter.
The butter, which should be at room temperature, will be combined with sugar to form a creamy mixture. It is essential to beat the butter well with the sugar, as the air incorporated in this process will help the cookies become fluffy. Once we achieve a creamy consistency, we add an egg, continuing to mix until homogeneous. This will add richness and moisture to our dough.
We gradually start incorporating the flour mixture, mixing carefully until we obtain a consistent but easy-to-shape dough. It is important not to overmix, to avoid gluten development, which could make the cookies tough. After obtaining the basic dough, we set aside 3 tablespoons of it and add cocoa, mixing well to achieve a darker shade. This dough will be used to shape the nose and ears of the cookies.
Once we have finished preparing the two types of dough, we cover them with plastic wrap and place them in the fridge to cool slightly. In the meantime, we focus on the filling. We mix 4 tablespoons of coconut with a handful of ground nuts, some raisins, and a tablespoon of cocoa, gradually adding a few tablespoons of milk until we obtain a homogeneous but not too liquid composition.
After the filling is ready, we return to the white dough. We break off pieces of dough that we roll into round shapes. In the center of each ball, we place a portion of the filling and pinch the edges of the dough inward, thus forming a ball. It is essential to close the filling well in the dough to prevent it from leaking during baking. Then, we shape our cookies as round as possible and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
From the brown dough, we form small balls for the nose and flat oval pieces for the ears. The eyes will be represented by chocolate chips, which we carefully place on each cookie. After we finish decorating, we put the tray in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius and bake the cookies for about 30-40 minutes. When the base of the cookies starts to brown, we know they are ready. We let the cookies cool slightly before enjoying them, savoring the delicious combination of flavors and textures.
