To prepare a pastry delight that will delight your taste buds, we start by making a perfect dough. Gather all the necessary ingredients: flour, water, salt, yeast, butter or oil, and possibly sugar if you want a slightly sweeter dough. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients, then gradually add the liquid and fat. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix well until the mixture starts to come together. Then, move on to kneading: place it on a clean work surface and begin to knead the dough with your palms, applying even pressure. It is important to work the dough for about 10-15 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. Once you have achieved the desired consistency, cover the dough with a damp towel or plastic wrap and let it rest for an hour at room temperature. This rest allows the yeast to act and the dough to rise.

After the resting time has passed, take the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a thin sheet about 3-5 mm thick. Use a rolling pin to achieve an even thickness. Once the sheet is ready, cut it into diamonds or any other desired shape according to your preferences. Before frying them, sprinkle poppy seeds on the surface of the dough, which will add an unmistakable flavor and a crunchy texture. Use a rolling pin to gently press the poppy seeds into the dough, ensuring they stick well.

In a deep pan, heat the oil until it becomes hot. Make sure the oil is hot enough to fry the dough but not so hot that it burns. Start adding the dough diamonds, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them until golden and crispy, turning them on all sides for even frying. Once they are ready, remove them with a spatula and let them drain on a paper towel, which will absorb the excess oil.

Finally, sprinkle powdered vanilla sugar over the fried delights, giving them a sweet and aromatic touch. These snacks are perfect to be served warm, alongside a cup of tea or coffee, and are ideal to be enjoyed during moments of indulgence or when you have guests. Bon appétit!
