Chicken Chop Suey
We start preparing this delicious recipe by putting the wok on medium-high heat. It is essential that the wok is well heated, so the ingredients cook evenly and retain their crispy texture. We add 2-3 tablespoons of sunflower or sesame oil, depending on preferences, and let the oil heat up well. Once the oil starts to smoke slightly, it’s time to add the meat cut into thin strips.
The meat can be chicken, beef, or pork, depending on everyone’s taste. We lightly salt it, being careful not to overdo it, as the sauces we will add later may also contain salt. We stir continuously for 3-4 minutes, so the meat browns nicely on all sides. It is important not to overcrowd the wok, so if we have a large amount of meat, it’s better to cook it in several batches.
After the meat has started to take on a nice color, we add a few cloves of finely chopped garlic. The garlic will add an intense flavor to our dish. We continue to stir, letting the garlic infuse in the hot oil for 1-2 minutes. Be careful, the garlic can burn very quickly, so we need to watch the temperature of the wok.
Once the garlic starts to release its aroma, we can add our favorite vegetables. Julienned carrots, colorful bell peppers, or broccoli are just a few suggestions that pair perfectly with the meat. We mix everything energetically, so the vegetables soften a bit but remain crunchy.
To enhance the flavors, we can add soy sauce, oyster sauce, or even a bit of chili sauce for an extra kick. We stir well to ensure that the sauces are evenly distributed over the meat and vegetables. We continue cooking everything for another 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are cooked but still have a pleasant texture.
In the end, we can add a handful of toasted sesame seeds for extra crunch and a sprinkle of finely chopped green onion for a colorful and fresh look. We serve the dish warm, alongside boiled rice or noodles, to complete this delicious culinary experience. Bon appétit!
