Apple Crumble Cake

Ingredients: For the stuffing -1 kg apples, grated -5 tablespoons oil -4-5 tablespoons sugar or to taste -1-2 tablespoons cinnamon, powdered -3 tablespoons grated grated gray For the dough -250 g butter / margarine, soft -1 whole egg -2 tbsp sour cream -½ cup sugar -½ cup flour to taste -1 teaspoon baking powder -2 tablespoons water (if the dough requires it) For the crumble -½ cup walnut kernels, coarsely chopped -½ cup ground nut kernels -cororice powder, to taste - a pinch of brown sugar, for sprinkling (optional) For the garnish - powdered sugar, optional

For the filling, start by washing and peeling the apples, then grate them finely. In a large skillet, add the grated apples along with the oil and place them over medium heat. Stir constantly so that the apples do not stick to the bottom of the pan. You will notice that as they heat up, the apples will release their juice, but you want to cook the mixture until the juice evaporates completely. Continuing to stir, you will turn the apples into a smooth paste, which will add a delicious texture to the filling. When the mixture becomes consistent, add sugar, depending on how sweet the apples are, and then sprinkle cinnamon, an ingredient that will provide a warm and comforting flavor. Finally, integrate the semolina, which will help absorb moisture, allowing the filling to cool down.

For the dough, start by creaming the butter at room temperature, using a mixer or spatula. Add the egg, sour cream, and sugar, mixing well until you obtain a homogeneous composition. Gradually incorporate the sifted flour along with the baking powder, mixing gently so that no lumps form. The dough should be soft enough to be shaped, but not so sticky that it sticks to your hands. If you feel it is too hard, you can add a few tablespoons of water, mixing until you achieve the desired consistency. Divide the dough into two unequal parts, and from the larger piece, roll out a rectangular sheet, which you will place in the 30x30 cm baking dish that you previously lined with parchment paper, making sure to cover the edges as well.

After rolling out the dough, pour the cooled apple filling and level it evenly. Sprinkle the coarsely chopped nuts on top, which will add a crunchy and flavorful taste.

For the crumble, take the smaller piece of dough and knead it well with powdered cinnamon and 2 or 3 tablespoons of flour until it becomes firmer and can be grated on a large grater. Evenly sprinkle the obtained crumbs over the cake, giving it a delicious texture at the end. Optionally, you can add a little cinnamon or brown sugar on top for extra flavor.

Place the cake in the preheated oven at 180 degrees and bake for about 30-45 minutes, depending on the dish used. The cake is ready when the top is baked, passes the toothpick test, the edges pull away easily from the dish, and the surface becomes golden and browned. After removing the cake from the oven, let it cool on a rack. Finally, if desired, you can dust it with powdered sugar for a more appealing look. Serve the sliced cake, enjoying the delicious combination of apples, nuts, and crunchy crumble!
