Homemade pizza is an excellent choice for a quick dinner or a gathering with friends. With a soft and crispy crust, full of flavors, this simple recipe will transform your kitchen into an Italian corner. Here’s how to make a delicious pizza, step by step.
Ingredients for the crust:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
- 4 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin for an intense flavor)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 300 ml warm water
Ingredients for toppings (your choice):
- 200 g mozzarella cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 200 g tomato sauce (can also be basil or oregano tomato sauce)
- 150 g cold cuts (salami, prosciutto, pepperoni)
- Fresh vegetables (bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, onion)
- Spices (oregano, basil, pepper)
Instructions:
1. Start by activating the yeast. In a small bowl, mix the yeast with the sugar and 100 ml of warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This is a crucial step for achieving a fluffy dough.
2. In a large bowl, place the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, olive oil, and the remaining warm water. Mix the ingredients with a spatula or your hands until you obtain a smooth dough.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little flour, but don’t overdo it; a wet dough will be fluffier.
4. Form a ball from the dough and place it in an oiled bowl. Cover it with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
5. Meanwhile, prepare your favorite toppings. You can use shredded mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced cold cuts, and diced vegetables. Customize your pizza according to your tastes!
6. Preheat the oven to 220°C (high heat). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
7. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface, forming a thin or thick sheet, depending on your preferences. Transfer it to a baking tray or pizza stone.
8. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a little space at the edges. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and add your desired toppings. Don’t hesitate to be generous!
9. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy. If you like your pizza more well-done, leave it in for a few extra minutes.
10. Once the pizza is ready, let it cool for a few minutes, then slice it and serve it warm. You can add a drizzle of olive oil or fresh basil leaves on top for an extra flavor.
Serving suggestions:
This pizza is perfect alongside a fresh green salad or a glass of red wine. You can also experiment with various toppings, such as pineapple, artichokes, or even seafood, for a unique twist.
Variations:
If you want a gluten-free pizza, you can replace the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour available. Also, for a vegan option, choose plant-based cheese and meat alternatives.
Cooking at home not only gives you control over the ingredients, but it also turns every meal into a special occasion. Bon appétit!
