Dressed Breadsticks: Quick and Savory Appetizer
Preparing a light and delicious appetizer can be a true pleasure. Today, I present you with the recipe for dressed breadsticks, an appetizer that not only looks spectacular but is also extremely simple to make. While long breadsticks are ideal, I will also provide suggestions to adapt the recipe with what you have on hand.
History of Breadsticks
Breadsticks originate from Italian cuisine, being a type of crispy bread, perfect for tasting as an appetizer. They have gained popularity worldwide, appreciated for their crunchy texture and versatility in flavor combinations. Dressed breadsticks are an excellent way to add a touch of creativity to your meals, ideal for parties or gatherings with friends.
Preparation Time
- Preparation time: 10 minutes
- Cooking time: 0 minutes
- Total time: 10 minutes
- Number of servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 package of long breadsticks (ideal, but short ones can also be used)
- 100 g of thinly sliced ham or salami (choose a quality variant with rich flavor)
- 150 g of cream cheese (you can opt for flavored cream cheese for an extra kick)
- Optional: finely chopped green onion for garnish
Preparation Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients: Make sure you have all the ingredients at hand. If you are using short breadsticks, don’t worry; they can be successfully used to create just as delicious an appetizer.
2. Spread the Breadsticks: Take a breadstick and, using a spatula or knife, spread half of it with cream cheese. Be generous with the cream cheese, as it will add a creamy and savory flavor to the appetizer.
3. Wrap with Ham: After spreading the breadstick, cut thin slices of ham or salami. Place the slices of ham on the cream, starting from one end of the breadstick and continuing to wrap it around. Ideally, the ham should wrap around several times, but even a single layer will look great.
4. Garnish: If you have green onion, chop a fine piece and tie it at the end of the breadstick for a touch of style. This not only adds a pleasant appearance but also a note of freshness.
5. Serve: Arrange the dressed breadsticks on an elegant platter. They are excellent served immediately, but can also be prepared a few hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator to be served cold.
Practical Tips
- Choosing Ingredients: Opt for quality ham, preferably without preservatives. Also, flavored cream cheese (with olives, herbs, or garlic) can add a more intense taste.
- Variations: Experiment with other types of meat, such as pastrami or even roasted vegetables. You can also add slices of tomatoes or peppers for a splash of color and freshness.
- Pairing with Drinks: This appetizer pairs perfectly with a glass of refreshing white wine or a fruit cocktail.

It would have been better if the breadsticks were long (I can't find them here, they are very rare). They look much better with long breadsticks. Take a breadstick and spread cream cheese on it up to the middle of the breadstick, then wrap slices of ham around where the cream cheese is and place it on a platter. They are great if the breadsticks are long and the ham is a large, very thin slice, and on top, you can tie it with a finely chopped green onion (I didn't tie it because they were very short). Ideally, the ham should be able to wrap around the breadstick several times; it looks amazing. If you have the chance, try them; they are wonderful. Today I went around the stores and found nothing, not a single long breadstick... in the country you can definitely find them; here I am just unlucky that they don't bring them all the time.
