Total time: 10 days and 15 minutes
Number of servings: 10-12 servings
I present to you a recipe for strawberry liqueur, an extremely aromatic alcoholic drink that can be enjoyed as is, as a delicious strawberry liqueur, or used in various cocktail combinations. This recipe is simple and very effective, giving you the chance to enjoy the taste of summer even in the cold months. Here are the detailed steps to achieve a perfect strawberry liqueur.
Ingredients:
- 3 kg fresh, ripe, aromatic strawberries
- 1 kg sugar
- 1 l alcohol (I recommend a 40% vol. alcohol)
- 2 l vodka
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
Step 1: Preparing the strawberries
Start by cleaning the 3 kg of strawberries. Make sure to choose fresh fruit, free from spots or mold. Wash them well in several cold waters to remove any impurities or residues. This step is crucial for obtaining a quality liqueur.
Step 2: Layering the strawberries
Place the whole strawberries in a glass carboy. Cover them with half of the sugar, which is 500 g. This will help extract the juices from the strawberries, creating a natural and delicious syrup.
Step 3: Crushing the strawberries
Meanwhile, wash the remaining strawberries and crush them gently to release their juices. Add them over the whole strawberries in the carboy, then cover them with the remaining sugar (500 g). The mixture will start to ferment in the following days.
Step 4: Fermentation
Leave the mixture warm, in a dark place, for 10 days. It is important to gently shake the carboy every day to ensure that the resulting syrup evenly covers the fruit. This process will intensify the flavor of the strawberries.
Step 5: Adding the alcohol
After 10 days, it is time to incorporate the alcohol. Pour 1 l of alcohol and 2 l of vodka into the carboy, adding a packet of vanilla sugar for extra flavor. This ingredient will add a subtle note of vanilla, perfectly complementing the taste of the strawberries.
Step 6: Closing the carboy
Cover the mouth of the carboy with a cork and tie it with plastic wrap folded in two. This will prevent the alcohol from evaporating and allow the liqueur to continue developing flavors.
Step 7: Maturation
Your liqueur can be consumed immediately, but it is recommended to let it mature for at least a month to develop its flavor. If you choose to keep it longer, you can store it for several months; the flavors will intensify even more.
Serving suggestions:
Strawberry liqueur is delicious when served cold, in small glasses. You can add it to cocktails or use it as a topping for ice cream or desserts. A wonderful idea is to add a few ice cubes and a slice of lemon for a refreshing cocktail.
Personalized version:
If you want to experiment, you can add aromatic herbs like mint or basil during fermentation for a touch of freshness. You can also replace some of the strawberries with other seasonal fruits, such as peaches or raspberries, to achieve varied flavors.
Now you are ready to get to work! With this strawberry liqueur recipe, you will not only enjoy a delicious drink but also impress anyone with your cooking skills. Enjoy the process and the final result!
