Gratinated Potatoes 3
To prepare a delicious and comforting potato-based dish, we start by peeling the potatoes and slicing them into thin rounds using a grater or a sharp knife. It is important to have a uniform thickness to ensure even cooking. We arrange the potato slices slightly overlapping, like shingles, in a greased baking dish that we have buttered beforehand to prevent sticking and to add a hint of flavor.
In a saucepan, we melt a tablespoon of butter in hot oil and add the semolina. We fry the semolina for a few minutes, stirring constantly, until it starts to change color and turns golden. This step is essential, as the semolina will add a pleasant texture to our sauce. After the semolina has taken on a slightly browned hue, we extinguish the heat with milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. We add sour cream and let it boil for 2-3 minutes, continuing to stir to achieve a creamy sauce that should not thicken too much.
When the sauce has reached the desired consistency, we add 150 grams of grated cheese, mixing well to homogenize it. Finally, we season with salt and pepper to taste, and if desired, you can incorporate a few crushed garlic cloves, which will add a special flavor to the dish. We pour the obtained sauce over the potatoes arranged in the dish, ensuring that we cover them evenly, using a spoon to help.
For an attractive appearance and extra flavor, we sprinkle the remaining grated cheese on top, add fresh basil leaves, and place a few pieces of butter here and there. This blend of flavors will transform the dish into a culinary feast. We place the dish in the preheated oven, where we let it bake for about 30 minutes at moderate heat, or until the potatoes become tender and a crispy, golden crust forms on top.
Finally, we serve this delicious dish warm, alongside a piece of juicy meat and a fresh seasonal salad, which will perfectly complement the meal. This combination of textures and flavors will surely delight the taste buds and bring a touch of joy to every plate.
